Chromium will be the default web browser in Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition

Chromium, the open source browser on which Google Chrome is based, will be included by default in the version Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition (UNE), at least during its development until Alpha3, thus replacing the old Firefox. 🙁

The decision came from the Ubuntu Develoment Summit, where some of the main advantages of Chromium were considered: its incredible speed, that it is being built on the basis of good code, that it has an excellent maintenance cycle and a growing community of developers involved. with the project.

On the other hand, some of its "cons" were also mentioned, such as the non-native look (which is terribly out of step with the new position of the window icons, now on the left), the lack of support for scrollbars and the difficulties to integrate Chromium with the new Global Menu that will come in UNE 10.10.

Anyway ... one more proof that Firefox 4 has many challenges ahead. However, I must add that another of the fundamental cons that Chromium has is its very high memory usage compared to, for example, Firefox, which is a huge disadvantage on netbooks that don't come with a lot of memory.

Wow, excellent news hehe at least for some like me. but notice that I was just thinking about those points against, I was very happy when I learned about the buttons on the left, now it feels more Mac OSX, and I have also used the Global Menu for a while ... and Chrome those two things just don't work ... but I consider they are the only defects lol.
