Signature collection to improve AMD drivers

Many of us are users who have been disappointed with the latest legacy 12.6 driver that has been released for our graphics cards, the problems that we asked to be solved were not solved and our cards were discontinued, in something that I call, insult to the consumer and AMD customer.

I think that as AMD users and customers we deserve more respect, we deserve a better tract from the company, for this reason, I have created the petition that I put here below, a petition that I hope more possible people will sign and that when we reach 150 signatures , I plan to send AMD. To sign it, just send an email to markurujapan@gmail.com with your name and surname and the country where you reside.

I look forward to the greatest participation.

Petition:

Gentlemen of AMD, as users of the GNU / Linux operating system, as desktop users, who have spent their money and put their trust in you, who have bought graphics cards from the radeon hd4000, 3000 and 2000 series, we want to show our discontent with the current situation of the radeon catalyst drivers, which have been discontinued without even fixing all the flaws they currently have. As users and consumers, we ask that the driver for our graphics cards be improved, that the current bugs (tearing in playback with opengl output, no gpu acceleration in chrome and firefox, poor 2d performance, tearing in playback with xvba, slow performance with compiz and kwin) are fixed.

Sincerely, I and many other Gnu / Linux users sign this petition.

it is simpler to buy an nvidia.
also, the '4 hd08xxx are no longer supported, compared to the '6 geforce 04xxx that are still supported by current drivers.
but I will still join your request

    1.    Shiba87 said

Personally, I have never recommended / bought AMD / Ati precisely because of the support issue, but one thing does not take away the other, that is why you have to sign, in order to have more alternatives to choose from.
So the more support the initiative has, the more chances it will have of achieving the goal, overall trying it does not hurt and it can be something beneficial for everyone.

It is very easy to say for those who have a desktop, but all these cards are portals and we demand better drivers for Linux from AMD

Let's see how the petition works, there is no worse fight than the one that is not done.

I join your request, but remember that the best way to express our dissatisfaction with a product is by not buying it and recommending that others not buy it.

    1.    msx said

      Exact.
More than one AMD / ATi officer must have printed the petition on toilet paper.

With the proprietary diver I have had the curious problem that it does not hibernate or suspend in a Vision E2 (HD 6320), and the free driver uses a lot of energy and dissipates heat.
    You have my signature

  5.   David Yeshael Naranjo Sanchez said

I think what you propose is perfect but I would recommend you get more signatures since 150 signatures are insignificant

  6.   artbgz said

Still, AMD is the most powerful thing you can get that works with free drivers. And is that although Intel has excellent drivers, the performance of its chips does not compare with a Radeon or GeForce. And on the other hand nVidia's open source support is laughable (it doesn't exist).

I support the initiative, because I believe that AMD is closer to the open source community, compared to nVidia.

The best solution and measure of pressure against the crap of AMD / ATI products is not to buy them, neither signatures nor milk ...

I have been exercising this measure of pressure since 2005 and Holy Easter.

But you have my moral support…. 😉

    1.    pandev92 said

Sure, you don't buy them and then what? That they don't care, we are not 10% of their sales market ..., they sell less and less good drivers will do, because they can say, is that nobody who uses Linux buys our products

      1.    Anonymous said

It is true that GNU / Linux does not have a sufficient percentage of users to beg the manufacturers as you say, but you can do both. I don't buy ATI graphics either, but I would still subscribe to the request because I know that there are other users who need better drivers. How would AMD know that I use Nvidia? And I also think that it is always better to have the options left out, because in addition they would leave a better impression on those who, having those graphics, decide to migrate to Linux.

  8.   tomi said

I support the request I have a radeon hd 4670 stuck in ubuntu 12.04 because I can't use the drivers in ubuntu 12.10

    1.    eduardo said

We are in the same, this problem prevents me from changing my distro to another like fedora or archlinux. Luckily Ubuntu 12.04 is LST.
If they are not going to release the source code of their drivers, at least they make them well done and give them support.
But it's still unfair that AMD's people don't think about their customers.

Isn't it better to do a collection of digital signatures?
    On an online website?

Or does it have to be a physical document?

    1.    pandev92 said

It would be fine but I don't know of any website that is this trustworthy, do you know any?

      1.    scaamanho said

I just sent it and it hasn't come out. If it comes out twice I apologize to the admins for the trouble of deleting it
        http://www.peticionpublica.es/
        http://www.firmasonline.com/
        http://www.efirmas.com/

Anyway, 150 signatures seem few to me. I think it would have to be a much more representative number.

      2.    € quiman said

There are many ... what do you mean by insurance?

That the data is not published or that the emails are used for SPAM?
If so ... then you can set up a google form that is very easy to do in Google Drive.

        1.    pandev92 said

Send me an email and we will see how we do it :), if you can help me, you would be of great help.

        Would change.org work? https://www.change.org/es

Anyway you have my signature. Although the good thing would be to release the specifications.

Do not believe that this situation is only suffered in GNU / Linux, no sir ... AMD graphics are extremely powerful ... (this when the drivers usually work), but the problem (and this regardless of the operating system in question), is that its drivers are a complete calamity, in OSX for example it suffers from poor performance so they have opted for Nvidia graphics, in Windows itself where the AMD is supposed to work flawlessly has its loopholes. For example in the Hackintosh community AMD cards are the biggest headache out there.
For my part, you have my support in terms of signatures, but for me AMD graphics cards are no longer an option in both Linux and OSX.

I also join the cause. Since they put the page to collect signatures, say it here on the blog and everyone I know a forum that deals with GNU / Linux that launches the initiative so they add more, but it would be good if it included Nvidia as well, those Drivers are somewhat problematic although I think not as much as ATI.

I have already proceeded to sign, they gave me a few years ago the laptop I have, and it has an ATI, it has part of the usual problems with these drivers, now it turns out that the HD3470 which is the one that my laptop has, with these drivers, is They are discontinued, we are going to be a shame.

Signed. I have two desktop machines (4570 and 5770) and a notebook (4250) and the performance is very poor in Linux, so much so that on the 4250 desktop it can perform more than the 5770, at least in my case ...

  22.   Victor said

I also have a radeon hd 3000 series and I agree, I hope I can give my signature xD I am 15 years old.
I take this opportunity to comment, they have just released a new version of the nvidia (partly thanks to ubuntu and valve) that requires improvement in linux, which drivers are better? those of ati or those of nvidia?
    A greeting!

  23.   munrha said

I hope that valve and some other company that joins the cause give Amd that push to improve their drivers, as Nvidia did with its latest drivers, it will be necessary to see if they meet the performance that Nvidia promises, which is much higher to the previous drivers, I don't remember the values but it was something to get excited about.

  24.   € quiman said

If things go as this news indicates ... I think they will not put their hand much into the Linux drivers. They will give you priority where they sell the most.

    http://www.omicrono.com/2012/11/amd-podria-estar-intentando-venderse/

    Is the news true?

  25.   € quiman said

This week I read a news story from AMD saying that they are going to focus a whole year on drivers and not on creating new models.

    1.    eduardo said

Where did you read it, I would like to read it, at least to have hope 🙂
