Convert Gnome-Shell extensions into extensions for Cinnamon

A friend (alaint) he just carried two extensions that he normally uses in Gnome Shell a Cinnamon and it has shown me the little trick to do to achieve this.

Inside any folder corresponding to an extension of Gnome Shell, we can find a file called metadata.json which should have something like this:

{
"uuid": "alternate-tab@gnome-shell-extensions.gnome.org",
"name": "AlternateTab",
"description": "A replacement for Alt-Tab, allows to cycle between windows and does not group by application",
"original-authors": [  "jw@bargsten.org", "thomas.bouffon@gmail.com" ],
"shell-version": [ "3.2.0", "3.2" ],
"localedir": "/usr/share/locale",
"url": "http://git.gnome.org/gnome-shell-extensions"
}

We are only interested in this line:

"shell-version": [ "3.2.0", "3.2" ],

Since to make the extension compatible with Cinnamon, we must replace it with this:

"cinnamon-version": [ "1.3", "1.4" ],

And that's it. Just restart Cinnamon and we can use the extension in question. I don't guarantee it will work with all of them, but at least my friend managed to migrate two of them (Pomodoro and a sensor for Processor temperature).

    [fuck mode ON]

    oh if I remember, it is the same as changing the extension of a file in windows to change the file type.

    [Mode fuck Off]… .hehehe

      It reminded me at the same time that a colleague and I broke our heads looking for how to create a .ipsw, when saving the .rar you only change the name of the extension hahaha xD

    Good thing 😉 that's what had to be done from the beginning that the gnome shell extensions also work on cinnamon 😀 but little by little hopefully the linux mint team will surprise you in May 😉

    I gather that you can also reverse the procedure for a Cinnamon extension to be able to use it in Gnome Shell.

    And how could we go about placing the extension in question where we want on the panel in the style of applets?

    Thank you.
