CopyQ - a clipboard manager with advanced features


CopyQ is an advanced cross-platform and open source clipboard manager It has functions such as history, search and edit, and with support for text, HTML, images, and any other custom format.

Copyq offers editing and scripting features. Monitor system clipboard and save content in custom guides. The saved clipboard can be copied and pasted directly into any application.

How to install CopyQ on Ubuntu 18.04 and derivatives from PPA?

If you want to install this application on your system you must perform the following steps.

The first thing we are going to do is add the application repository to our system, for this let's open a terminal Ctr + Alt + T and write the following command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hluk/copyq

Once this is done, we will update our list with:

sudo apt update

And finally we are going to install the application with:

sudo apt install copyq

With this we will already have CopyQ installed in our system.


How to install CopyQ on Ubuntu 18.04 and derivatives from Flatpak?

CopyQ is also available in Flatpak format, the only thing that is necessary to be able to install the application from this method is to have the support for this technology in our system.

For your installation we are going to open a terminal Ctrl + Alt + T and execute the following command:

flatpak install --user --from

We will only have to wait for the package to download and the installation to be carried out, this may take a few minutes depending on your internet connection.

Done the installation you can now start enjoying the application, you can find it in your application menu to run it.

In case you can't find it, you can run it with the following command from a terminal:

flatpak run com.github.hluk.copyq

How to use CopyQ?

Once the application has started in our system, we can use CopyQ in two ways, the first one is from its graphical interface (GUI) and the other is through the command line.

As it is a clipboard, the application already running will start working as soon as we are editing a document or surfing the net.

To edit the information saved in CopyQ we can do the following.

The selected items can be:

  • To copy content to the clipboard Ctrl + C
  • To edit we press F2
  • To delete we press the Delete key
  • Sort the content sequence Ctrl + Shift + S, Ctrl + Shift + R
  • Pasted to the previously active window Enter
  • To exit the application, select Exit from the tray menu or press Ctrl + Q in the application window.

How to uninstall CopyQ from Ubuntu and derivatives?

If you want to remove this application from your system you must open a terminal and run these commands:

sudo apt-get remove --autoremove copyq

To remove the repository from the system we must write in the terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:hluk/copyq
