Do you want our protection? No thanks

I was one of those who thought that only Facebook was the social network of things that do not work (for example the games of TopFace, Farmville etc) but I see that each social network has its things that far from helping only cause more problems.

After spending a month using the tweet protection system (the padlock next to the user's name) Today I leave you my assessment of how this option far from helping what it does is fuck.

What does the Twitter lock do?

As an additional security measure, Twitter allows each of its users to "protect their own Tweets" from other users who are unrelated to them, protecting the user from being mentioned in conversations by people they do not know. This means activating a restriction in the account that protects in a certain way the content that has to do with each user, that is: one more way to restrict who follows us and who does not, but ... is it really we gain something by putting the lock?

Here I explain my reasons why this option far from helping ... creates more problems for users and I think it is valid to clarify that I myself spent a full month using this option:

 1- Slaves of Twitter

When activating the padlock we will have to accept the follow-up subscriptions manually and that is why every time someone or any application of our Twitter friends wants to follow us we will have to go to the site to decide whether or not we accept that that individual or application can follow us . What would happen if one of them did not have the email notification service active? Surely I had several pending

2- We will speak only with our followers

If we activate the option to protect the padlock then we better not bother to write the Hashtag (#) or the labels (@) since our Tweets will not even reach the people we write to them unless they are following us in advance by what we could say that we would be almost speaking only with our followers. Have you ever wondered what would happen if a novice user without followers activates this option?

3- We will be followers but not followed

If we have the active lock and we start to follow someone new, the safest thing is that this person will not follow us since by having our Tweets restricted that person will not know what we are talking about so they will not be able to thank our comments or know that we are interested in what what do they say.

4- Goodbye to the lists or groups of others

If we activate the Twitter protection option then the other users will not be able to group us within a profile that does this as long as those users are not our followers

Conclusions

I do not intend to change the way in which everyone uses their Twitter account but at least it is valid to recognize that there are each options that far from helping what they do is create more problems. These are just some things that I have been able to experience when testing for a month how is the thing on Twitter using the lock. Now I invite you to share them with everyone if you find more absurd options like these.

It is useful if you want to send information to a certain group of users and that it is not public for others.
For example, I used Twitter for a while to send alerts from nagios, obviously I was not interested in customers or competitors finding out about the characteristics of my company's hardware or how many drops we had per month.

Twitter creates needs. The need for communication, basically. Now, you can either leave Twitter and go to an instance of Status.net (like Identi.ca; or better yet, set up yours) that will at least give you more control of your content.
Less people, obviously; but you can keep both. In addition, there are many people at Identi.ca technique and interesting.
    Or directly stop tweeting.
I don't see any point in complaining about something that is to isolate the accounts and no, it is not comparable to the Facebook games.

This post seems like a great pleonasm, really, what were you expecting protecting your account with the padlock? a paradise or something like that, also if you are aware of the jargon of twitter you will know that people do that with their accounts they do not get off of "tight girls", total, twitter is to communicate anything no matter how absurd xDDDD

    FTW ID.
I have been using it with more attention for a while and as a platform it is much richer than the bird. People are also different (for the better 😉), and if you want, they link from identi.ca and the updates also go to twitter.
It seems to me that as one discovers and verifies that there are Free Software options equal to or better than the proprietary ones, one has to progressively migrate. If you do not collaborate in popularizing them, you are collaborating with your own dependency on platforms that exploit, spy, steal rights and limit the user.
