Europe saves 450 billion euros thanks to free software

A few days ago a research projects. by Carlo Daffara, who says that Europe se save the spectacular number of 450 billion euros a year permit thanks to FOSS

Of course, not everything is the difference in price between free and proprietary programs, which amounts to 114 billion euros, 30% of the current IT market. Most of the savings comes from using free code in other IT projects. This code, which has been reused many times, is of higher quality than code that can be created from scratch. In this way, development time is reduced, and costs and problems or bugs in the system are reduced.

The report also indicates that the companies that use free software the most are also more productive and effective, for the same reasons I mentioned earlier. In total, the savings derived from the reuse of open source are estimated at at least 342 billion euros per year.

It's another way of looking at open source, not only as something that gives you more freedom but also as a way to save a good deal of money, time and effort. And, of course, it reminds us that there are many more free software projects than we see as users.

This shows what we all knew, that free software is more reliable and I'm glad of that 🙂
