Fedora Asahi Remix arrives based on Fedora 39
The Linux distribution Fedora Asahi Remix was recently launched , designed for installation on Mac computers equipped with ARM chips developed by Apple.

The transition is due to the fact that Fedora Linux has official support for ARM64 in the upstream branch, which allowed Asahi Linux developers to interact directly with the maintainers of Fedora's upstream repositories to troubleshoot software builds.

And so, after several months since the announcement of the collaboration between the Asahi Linux and Fedora teams, "Fedora Asahi Remix" was finally released, which is specifically designed for Apple Silicon systems, including those included in the M1/M2 SoC (MacBook, Mac Mini, Mac Studio and iMac).
Fedora Asahi Remix is ​​based on Fedora 39 and continues to use the KDE Plasma desktop environment by default, although for those who prefer GNOME, this environment can be used in the distribution, specifically GNOME 45. In addition, Fedora Asahi Remix ensures compatibility with Wayland, which, according to the official website, promises a smooth Linux desktop experience on Apple hardware similar to macOS.
It also features support for HDR mode and VRR function, as well as trackpad configuration customization and scaling adjustment for displaying information on the screen, and a wizard that simplifies the setup of the work environment.
Furthermore, it's mentioned that it supports the OpenGL 3.3 3D graphics API, providing features such as GPU-accelerated geometry shaders and Transform Feedback. It also comes with OpenGL ES 3.1 (the world's first certified implementation for Apple Silicon chips), an extended version of OpenGL specifically designed for embedded systems and mobile devices. It's worth noting that the developers are working to add support for OpenGL 4.x and Vulkan in a future update.
Another highlight of Fedora Asahi Remix is ​​its integrated DSP solution , achieved through a collaboration with the PipeWire and WirePlumber projects. This fully integrated implementation guarantees high-quality audio without the need for additional configuration, making it one of the best DSPs available from other distributions.
The team also implemented Bankstown's patented dedicated bass enhancement technology and Smart Amp implementation, which optimize the listening experience while focusing on minimizing power consumption for longer battery life during sound playback.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that there are still features that cannot be taken advantage of, since the distribution still mainly lacks support for Thunderbolt, microphones, the Touch ID fingerprint scanner, in addition to the fact that Fedora Asahi Remix is ​​not yet supported.
The developers promise that the next release of the distribution will be based on Fedora 40 and will focus on providing support for the Mac Pro, adding support for OpenGL 4.x and Vulkan.
