Firefox is a popular web browser

Mozilla announced the release of the new version of Firefox 112.0 together with Firefox ESR 102.10.0. Version 112 introduces performance improvements, as well as allowing you to restore the previous session using the Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + T shortcut and more.

Firefox 112.0 now has a new command in the context menu that users can open while the mouse cursor is focused on a password field to reveal the password.

In addition, it is no longer necessary to inspect web elements and change the code of a page through the developer tools to obtain the same result.

Another of the changes presented by the new version of Firefox 112.0 is that can import browser data from Chromium Snap package in Ubuntu and there's a new way to close tabs from the tab list panel by simply middle-clicking items in the tab list. The keyboard shortcut previously used to "restore" a tab (Ctrl+Shift+T) can now be used to restore previous sessions, if there are no more closed tabs of the same session to reopen.

Also highlights a performance improvement on version of Windows equipped with Intel GPU it is achieved by enabling software video decoding. Performance gains come from reduced GPU requirements and come with improved video quality by downscaling.

On the other hand, one also stands out Firefox Enhanced Tracking Protection maximum security setting (Strict) is also becoming more effective at blocking cross-site tracking attempts by expanding its list of known tracking parameters that are stripped from URLs.

One final improvement that also stands out is the update comes complete with the usual plethora of security fixes, a deprecated Javascript API (U2F) is now disabled by default, and there are a handful of changes for developers as well.

Of the Other changes that stand out from the new version:

  • Added the forced color setting CSS property to disable forced color constraint on individual elements, leaving them full control of the color via CSS.
    The pow(), sqrt(), hypot(), log(), and exp() functions have been added to CSS.
  • Added the ability to specify the "overlay" value to the "overflow" CSS property, which is similar to the "auto" value.
  • Removed support for the IDBMutableFile, IDBFileRequest, IDBFileHandle, and IDBDatabase.createMutableFile() JavaScript interfaces, which are not defined in the spec and are no longer supported by other browsers.
  • Added support for the navigator.getAutoplayPolicy() method, which allows you to customize autoplay behavior (the autoplay parameter) on media elements. By default, the setting dom.media.autoplay-policy-detection.enabled is enabled .
  • Added the CanvasRenderingContext2D.roundRect() , Path2D.roundRect() , and OffscreenCanvasRenderingContext2D.roundRect() functions to render rounded rectangles.
  • Added additional connection detail results to web development tools, such as Client Hello header encryption, DNS over HTTPS, delegated credentials, and OCSP.
  • The Android version offers the ability to customize the behavior when opening a link in another app (must be requested once or every time). Added a swipe down screen gesture (pull to refresh) to reload the page. Enhanced video playback with 10-bit color per channel. Fixed an issue with YouTube full screen video playback.
