Firefox 69.0.3 update released with webrender improvements

Firefox 69

Recently a corrective update was released for Firefox 69.0.3 in which solved the problem of displaying a dialog box to download files by clicking on the email in Yahoo webmail. Also, file download issues were resolved when launching a browser in Windows 10 with parental control enabled.

Furthermore, also with the release of this browser update you can see the continuous development of the WebRender composition system, written in Rust and taking the side of the GPU to display the page content.

When using WebRender instead of the composition system built into the Gecko engine, which processes the data using the CPU, the shaders made on the GPU are used to perform the consolidated rendering operations of page elements, allowing for increased significant in rendering speed and reducing the load on the CPU.

WebRender added to Firefox Preview mobile browser nightly builds (replacing Firefox for Android) and turned on by default for Pixel 2 devices (for other devices in about: config, gfx.webrender.all should be enabled).

WebRender tIt also has advanced caching and image rendering systems. The code for text rasterization was modified, which made it possible to achieve support for sub-pixel text positioning on Linux and Android platforms.

When Firefox runs on Wayland, a new backend was implemented that uses the DMABUF mechanism to draw textures and organize the exchange of buffers with these textures placed in the video memory by different processes.

In addition, optimized image decoding performance has been added, using SIMD instructions to speed up and reduce format conversion time by 5-10%.
