Firefox OS 2.0 installation on Alcatel One Touch Fire with Linux Mint

Hello GNU / Linux users, I tell you that I recently bought an Alcatel One Touch Fire for work, a low-end phone that helps me for my daily work.

With my purchase I decided to explore and know Firefox OS. I really liked the simplicity of the operating system and its functionality to perform the basic tasks of a cell phone.

The Alacatel One Touch Fire phone comes with Firefox OS 1.1What I immediately missed was the ringtone settings, as these couldn't be easily changed. So I started to find out about the issue of how to modify the ringtones in Firefox OS 1.1. Looking for information I came to the conclusion that it would be better to install the new versions of Firefox OS.

It was like this that reading some tutorials and with trials and errors I managed to install Firefox 2.0 pre-release with practice the installation of Firefox 2.0 is done in 10 to 15 minutes.

Let's go to the Firefox OS 2.0 installation procedure.

Previous requirements:

  1. Have the phone in developer mode.
  2. Choose the image of your preference and download it from https://vegnuxmod.wordpress.com/hamachi-alcatel-otf/

In this manual we will use Firefox 2.0 Pre-release "images-hamachi-v2.0-20140629″ In my case I downloaded, unzipped and installed the image “images-hamachi-v2.0-20140623.tar”.

Download this file: http://adf.ly/poV7o

  1. Remove our SIM and SD card just in case.
  2. Have the android tools libraries installed for the installation of Android and Firefox OS:

To install the libraries from the terminal we place:

sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb

Firefox OS 2.0 installation

We open a terminal and execute the following:

$ sudo -i

We write our password.

Then we go to the directory path of the images
in my case the images are in my personal folder a I put in my terminal:

$ cd /home/a/images-hamachi-v2.0-20140629

Then we write in our terminal:

$ls-1

The file fastboot It will appear green indicating that it is available to execute.

We make the following file executable fastboot we put in the terminal:

$chmod 755 fastboot

Then we turn off the phone still connected with the usb cable to the PC. Once you turn off the cell phone it will restart, therefore we must enter Bootloader mode. We hold tight Volume (-) + On together for 5 or 7 seconds once you restart the phone.

To check that it works we put in our terminal:

$ ./fastboot devices

Finally we execute the following commands one by one in our terminal:

$ ./fastboot flash boot boot.img $ ./fastboot flash userdata userdata.img $ ./fastboot flash system system.img $ ./fastboot flash recovery recovery.img $ ./fastboot erase cache $. / fastboot reboot

I leave you my mini manual.

Since I bought this phone about a year ago I have been looking for a way to update it, and the best thing of all is that it is desde linux. I'll try it tonight, see how it goes.

Thank you very much for the information.

Thank you very much friend, if you get official Firefox OS images from Mozilla's official website, pass me the data, I couldn't get them unfortunately.
In about 10 minutes you cook the Firefox OS installation.
Best of luck, let me know if you have a problem.

  2.   erunamoJAZZ said

And in case there is a problem, or I don't like the installation and want to recover the initial installation, is it possible to make a backup?

You give the commands, but you don't even explain what they do ... that in addition to leaving a link of ads fly wtf! .... I don't know how they allowed you to post this like this here xDDD

I'm sorry, but I don't feel like risking my phone and it doesn't work ... I need it for day to day. Yes I would like to update the OS, but not like this.

    Luck or /

The link with Ads Fly because I could not review it, because I edited this post from a dial-up connection. However, if someone is kind enough to tell me if when the Ads Fly passes the file to download is fraudulent or something like that, we will edit it. Removing that, man, what does it cost you to click on Skip Ads? XDD

      1.    marianogaudix said

ErunamoJAZZ has time to comment on Desde Linux .
But you don't seem to have time to Googled and search for an official Firefox OS image on the internet and install XDD.

    2.    marianogaudix said

Since you have time to comment here and sell smoke.
Also ErunamoJAZZ you will have to look for an official and old version of Firefox OS.
and install it, if you don't like Firefox 2.0 / 2.1.
The file of the fly ads link, is by way of example.
For that, leave the main link, where you can download different versions of Firefox OS
When you install an updated version of Firefox OS or an earlier one, the installation formats your entire phone.

No no! I'm really sorry if I sounded offensive or something, at no time was my intention to try to destroy this or something like that, only after seeing how "relaxed" the explanation is, I couldn't keep quiet ... think about it way: in other places (imagine perhaps the famous site of Argentine origin where you can find everything and "machines") the explanations are of the "copy and paste" style, and full of images, no matter what the commands do or what for they are… personally, since I am a developer, I find that kind of thing an impudence… hence it is usually better to go to read the manual than to look for explanations online.

Regarding googling, of course I have, but before looking for the images out there on sites that I have no idea about (sorry for being suspicious, but I don't trust binaries, only src), I would have preferred to do it myself a backup of my own phone, and since you have had experience with the matter, I was expecting some kind of response about it ... even if it was a "I don't know".

With the advertising link ... it just makes me angry ... physical rage xD, and basically because I do not know who will benefit from the royalties for the advertising that is shown there.

I sincerely apologize for the bad sound of my comment, my only intention with it is not to let the blog decay with articles and explanations that instead of simple, are mediocre.

        Greetings or /

    3.    marianogaudix said

He waited for you to show me your own backup on your phone and then upload your own article in From Linux on how to install Firefox OS, so we will see who is more mediocre of the two.
You seem to be a newbie. Because I have to explain such easy commands to you, such as entering superuser mode ("root") or searching for a directory. Every user who installs a Gnu / Linux distribution with a simple reading of an article, knows what it means:
      sudo -i, cd, ls -i.
      http://www.rapidtables.com/code/linux/cd.htm
If you talk about TARINGA it has nothing to do with this, I myself developed this tutorial for that I left a download link, it seems that you did not see the download link from Mediafire.

Providing another upgrade option is greatly appreciated and appreciated. The Vegnux MOD worked for me to update it from Windows to version 2.1, so far without problems. It also has a ".sh" to do it desde Linux, but I'm honestly just starting out so I really don't have much idea about the subject. Good day.

I just installed the RON of Firefox OS 2.1 from vegnuxmod the ROM v2.1 20150328, although it is a pre-release ROM, it works excellently on my Alcatel One Touch Fire.

It looks interesting, yesterday I installed CyanogenMod11 on my Samsung Galaxy s5630L, and I managed to make my tablet work without touch via VNC, with the same commands. Good tutorial.

Excellent. Now I have more reason to get a Firefox OS.

Below, fellow jrlafaurie in his comment left me another download link for the Alcatel One Touch Fire, check the link.

        http://mexmod.com/index.html

I will tell you that I learned how to install Firefox OS from Mozilla's official website on devices compatible with Firefox OS. On my Alcatel One Touch it did not work unfortunately

        https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS/Phone_guide/Flame/Updating_your_Flame

You have to download the stable Base image v18D.zip below, it explains how to install the image
Firefox OS 2.0 stable. If you have doubts I will help you

    2.    marianogaudix said

I leave you the official Mozilla tutorial with official base images.
below there is a tutorial on how to install them

      https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS/Phone_guide/Flame/Updating_your_Flame

I wanted to install them but Mozilla does not support Alcatel One Touch Fire.
But I know how to install these stable base images.

To adapt these images you must create them yourself for your unsupported device. I'll see if I can find a tutorial.

P.S. It is an ideal mobile for work if it breaks or something does not hurt as much as one 200 euros or more.

Great tutorial. I was able to install firefox OS 2.0 on my Alcatel OT Fire, but when I turn it on with the new version, the sim card does not recognize me: S

Do you know what the problem can be? If I don't install another rom and try ...

    1.    jrlafaurie said

I also had that problem and I had to change the version now I have 1.3, which is stable, although 2.0 and later are already quite stable, which has bugs that may be undesirable, I recommend 1.3

      1.    Frapp said

I solved it, I installed version 2.1 which is great, except that the battery lasts even less.

    2.    marianogaudix said

I just installed the Firefox OS 2.1 ROM from vegnuxmod, the 2.1 ROM v20150328, even though it is a prerelease ROM, it works fine on my Alcatel One Touch Fire.

  9.   jrlafaurie said

The tutorial is good and it is good to know that more people have opted for this system, for those who did not understand that I think it was very well explicit I leave here other links where they also cook images for this phone, I hope it helps you I tell you that I am using currently version 2.2 of these sites and there are no data loss problems because there are tutorials on how to save the current version and recover it

    1.    marianogaudix said

Thank you very much jrlafaurie the truth is that, I could not find the stable versions of Firefox OS 2.0 for Alcatel One Touch Fire.

I tell you that I found the Mozilla tutorial with official stable base images.
Base image v18D.zip. Below they explain how to install Firefo OS 2.O.

      https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS/Phone_guide/Flame/Updating_your_Flame

It does not work on my Alcatel because the images made by Mozilla do not have support for Alcatel One Touch Fire. To adapt these images you must create them yourself for your unsupported device.

      1.    jrlafaurie said

Those links that I put in my previous comment are the ones that I use to update my phone because, as you say, the mozilla ones do not work for this because they do not support them, also in those sites mainly the vegnuxmod which is the one that I use the most. Stable OEMs I bought my phone in Venezuela and currently I have the stable 1.3 from Venezuela that works perfectly
