Geek Dictionary, some terms that are used on the net and we do not understand

Many of us at times have been slightly lost (if not totally) when reading some comments in forums or sites in general related to technologies.

Many times we do not understand some strange acronyms or acronyms that we find in many answers from other more advanced users and accustomed to the language of the network of networks.

Sometimes we come to think that they are attacking our mother tongue, but, although I am a staunch defender of maintaining respect and formality during exchanges in our online services, it is no less true that it is never too much to know what each of these mean very rare words.

So I think it is convenient to share with our readers this small compendium of geek acronyms and their meanings. Before starting, I want to clarify that my interest is not to stimulate the use of these terms, the objective is only to increase our universe of knowledge a little: like it or not, this language is used and many members of our community are practically experts in use of it. Without further ado, here is the summary of the Geek dictionary ...

I clarify that unfortunately many of the words that I leave below have a somewhat obscene meaning, so I imagine that it will only serve you to know of its existence, since here in GUTL we have our rules and excessive offenses will not be accepted in the comments. 4U: For you, for you.
4S: For us, for us.
121: admiration for a person. In some forums the "121.gif" is an icon that expresses adoration and praise towards another user.
1337: / Liit / Leet speak or leet (1337 5p34k or 1337 in the leet script that we will discuss in another article) is a type of writing with alphanumeric characters used by some communities and users of different internet media.

A

AFK: acronym for “Away From Keyboard”, in Spanish “Far From the Keyboard”, it is usually used, especially in instant messaging and online video games, to indicate that one is absent or cannot be attended, allegorically “away from the keyboard”.
ASAP: "As soon as possible". As soon as possible. It is used as a formalism when someone expects an answer.
ASL: "Age, sex and location". Used in chats to ask for the basic data of the person you are talking to, age, gender and place.
AFAIK: ”As far as I know”. As far as I know.
ATM: acronym for "At this moment" (in Spanish: at this moment).
AKA: "Also Known As" (also known as) is used to refer to someone else's nickname

BRB: / bérbe / Be Right Back (in Spanish: I'll be right back).
BBL: acronym for "Be Back Later" (in Spanish: I'll be back later).
BRT: Be Right There (in Spanish: I'll be there)

C

Camper: player who in some online game, especially in the FPS, remains immobile in a place waiting for the enemy, instead of going for the enemy.
CT: Cheat Table, Cheat Tables for the Cheat Engine
CYA: where the C sounds like "see" and YA sounds like "You", also referred to "see you" referring to "I'll see you later".
Cracker: is someone who violates the security of a computer system for personal gain or just to harm.
CDT.- Abbreviation used for Change of Topic.
COD: abbreviation of the game "Call Of Duty"

D

DI: Abbreviation for "Doesn't matter."
Don't feed the troll: in Spanish “Don't feed the troll”. It is used as a recommendation to avoid falling into the provocations of trolls.
DDMAM "Don't distract me any more" means ... don't distract me anymore
DD: “Damage Dealer” (damage dealer) role character who is responsible for dealing most of the damage.
DPM: “De puta madre”, used when something is going well, in an ordinary way
Dx: It is a face of fury, the opposite of "xD"

FU / fak yu /: “Fuck You”, it means “fuck you”
FYEO: “For your eyes only”, which means “only for your eyes”.
FYM: fucking your mother

G

Geek: / guik / person with a great fascination for technology and computing, covering the different types of geek from a normal level of fascination to obsessive levels.
Gamer: / gueimer / person passionate about computer games and / or video consoles.
GTA- Abbreviation of the game "Grand Theft Auto".
GTFO: Get the fuck off / out, in Spanish “get off”
GTG g2g: Gotta Go / Gouta gou / means "I have to go" or "I have to go"
GL & HF: Good Luck and have fun; good luck and enjoy. Players or users use these acronyms to wish you good luck and a good game.
GG: Good Game (good game). Used at the end of a game with other players.
GF: Good Fight (good fight). It is commonly used in role-playing games.
GvG: Guild versus Guild, in games, clan against clan. Usually used to designate battles between clans
GJ / Gj: Good job (good job). It is commonly used in first person shooter games, to congratulate someone or the team, etc.
G- Abbreviation for the “Game Boy Advance” handheld video game console.
GW- Short for Guild Wars online role-playing game.
GoW: abbreviation to talk about the game God Of War
GC: short for Good Charlotte and to talk about the Nintendo Game Cube console.

H

Chippers: / jáquer / term used to refer to an expert in one or more technical branches related to information technology and telecommunications who is passionate about knowledge, discovering or learning new things and understanding how they work.
hax : / Jacs / It means "Hack" but in terms "H4x0r". In Netbattle it is used for the "lucky" player since they cannot damage their Pokemon or frequently hit "Critical hit".
HC: These acronyms have a double meaning in Habbo Hotel, in addition to meaning "Habbo Club" that are people who have bought a special bonus in this chat, it is also referred to as "Chulos Habbo" those people who abuse those privileges and spend everything the day scrubbing their money, their looks, insulting, or acting like Trolls (calling the majority Noob) and ignoring the other users. By becoming HC they tend to reduce their vocabulary to 3 words: HC, Vip and Noob.
HDP: in Spanish, abbreviation for "Son Of Puta".
H.F.H.: in Spanish, abbreviation for “Hacela Fácil Huevon”.

HL: Have Luck (in Spanish: good luck) in online games, before starting, to wish luck; it also means half life (it's a fps game)
HОYGAN: spelling corruption of "hear". It alludes in a satirical way to the texts plagued with spelling mistakes and to the people who write them.
HMS: You hurt my feelings
HP: short for "Son of a bitch." "Health points" health points. "Horse power".
HQJ: short for "Fuck you!"
HS: / hs - jedshot / abbreviation for “Head Shot” (: head shot). Used in video games.
hunted: / hanted / this word is basically used in some games referring to a person telling him that he is hunted (the players will not stop killing him), if a man says it it is equivalent to: "I'm going to cut your eggs" and if he says it a woman is equivalent to: "rapist you are going to die" in any case it is almost the same.
Hype: a product that generates a lot of expectation produces “hype”. It is widely used for long-awaited video games, series continuations, etc.

IMO / IMHO / IMAO: acronym for “In My Opinion” / ”In My Humble / Honest Opinion” / ”In My Arrogant Opinion”, English version for EMHO, “In My Humble Opinion”.
IRL: acronym for "In Real Life" ("in real life").
ICBI: acronym for "I Can't Believe It" ("I can not believe it").
IMBALANCE: abbreviation of Imbalance that means unbalanced / disproportionate. It is used when a player is superior to the others, that is to say, pwnea to sack.
IM: Instant Messaging, which would be like Chat
IC: Insert Coin, is basically used to continue playing a game of machines, or slot machines.

Kof: Abbreviation of the game "King of Fighters"
KI: Abbreviation of the game "Killer Instinct"

L

Team: difficulty produced by the delay of a communication normally caused by failures in the internet connection.
Lamer: / Leimar / person of few lights (the opposite of hacker, does not know how to use computers) who also makes a show of knowing. It is also used in online games to refer to those players who obtain score by killing defenseless players (without weapons), offline or lagged and also those who do not know how to play or Newbies. In the game Warcraft 3 it is used for people who They attack the opposing base without being accompanied by computer-managed creeps.
LE: "I get it".
leecher: person who takes advantage of the resources of others without contributing anything in return. As examples we have linking images from other servers without permission, or in the case of P2P, a person who downloads many things but shares very few.
Leet: / lit / at first l33t or 1337 in ASCII, means elite, person or group very apt in computer science matters.
LOL: acronym for "Loser on Line", "Laughing Out Loud", also "Lot Of Laughs", noisy laughter or laughter is its translation into Spanish. Although its definition may vary depending on the chat, it can be used for example to laugh at a situation that has just happened, sarcastically at an absurd joke.

NSFW: Not safe for work, in Spanish “not safe for work”; is used to flag violent, sexual or unpleasant content that may be inappropriate in the work environment.
N64- Abbreviation for "Nintendo 64" video game console.
NFS: abbreviation of “Not for Sale”. It is used in games to indicate that some item is not for sale. It can also refer to Need for Speed.

O

“O RLY?”. O RLY? / YA RLY / NO WAI: / ohreli? - yareli - nowei / abbreviation of "Oh Really?", Which could be translated into Spanish as "Seriously?" It is usually used in the form of sarcasm before something too obvious or contradictory or in response to something not very credible. It is answered with YA RLY which means “Yeah, really” (Yes, seriously), followed by “NO WAI” (No way, It can't be).
OMG: / omj / abbreviation in English for "Oh my God!" whose translation into Spanish is "Oh Dios mio!".
OFC: / ofcurs / abbreviation in English for "Of course!" whose translation into Spanish is "Por Supuesto".

OMG: abbreviation in English for "On my way" in Spanish, "I'm on the way."
owned: / ound / originally used by hackers and computer experts, the term referred to compromising the security of a system, getting full or root access. It has subsequently spread, designating the crushing defeat of one user over another in online games. It can also be seen as "pwned" / pound / which is born by wrongly writing "owned" substituting "o" for "p". It is also used to highlight someone's ignorance about a specific topic, or as a joke when someone has been bad. Other variants are 0wned, Own3d, pwned, pwn3d, and powned. It is also the great phrase of the cookie monster.
OIC: abbreviation in English of Oh! I see! whose translation is "I see"
OOP: / oop / abbreviation in English for “Out Of Place” in Spanish would mean “Out of Place”. It is used to designate that you are not on the PC, it is normally used in MSN Messenger to indicate that you are not on the computer, apart from the "Away" status.

P

PVC: adaptation of the English "Practic Clan War", "Friendly match". Mainly used in FPS games.
Post code: adaptation of the English "Please", "Please". Used to ask someone for something of value. It is mainly used in MMORPG games.
pr0n: adaptation of the English "porn", in Spanish "porno". Used to refer to content
pornographic. The term "p0rn" is also used. Used to circumvent the Word Filter of MMORPGs
plop: it is like the noise of when someone falls..that sounds plop (falls because it is very stupid what the other said) is mostly used in chats
PK: Player Killer. Used in video games, when a player kills another without justification, generally in mmorpg games.
PKT: is the abbreviation of pakete, a word used mostly in online games to designate people denied in the game, see amok
PRO: it is the abbreviation of Professional, it is said of those people who know how to handle “the game” (computer) very fluently. Also used to refer to Konami's game "Pro Evolution Soccer".
PTI: It is the Spanish version of FYI, and it would come to mean “For Your Information”.
PST: is an abbreviation that is best understood by sound ... the meaning is something like hey you.
PvP: is the abbreviation of Player versus Player (player against player). It is used in MMORPG games.
PTM: is the abbreviation of Puta Madre. It is used more than anything in the chat
PS: spit sounds like "ps" oe ps melas ... used only by Peruvians, Venezuelans, Mexicans and many Latinos and Hispanics.
PLR: Chilean acronym for "Kick In The Raja"

R

r0x : Term used in netbattle to refer to a player who defeats others using only one pokémon.
ROFL / ROTFL: acronym for "Rolling On The Floor Laughing", in Spanish "Rolling on the floor laughing" and deformation of LOL that refers to uncontrolled laughter, sometimes explosive.
ROFLMAO: acronym for "Rolling On The Floor Laughing My Ass Off", in Spanish "Rolling on the floor breaking your ass laughing" or "shit laughing on the floor"
RTFM: / rìdefama / acronym for “Read The Fucking Manual”, in Spanish “Lee el puto / jodido / puñetero / culiao manual”. It is used in response to a question that would have been unnecessary if the manual had been read.
RU: acronym for "Are You?", "Are you?"
rmk: acronym for "Remake", "Recreate". Widely used in online games to re-upload a game map.
rql: Reculiado (Chile). *
MTCR: Reconchetumare (Chile). *
RLZ: rules. it is used as saying "that's the best" or "that commands"
RS: abbreviation for the game RuneScape, it also means "respawn" (it is Spanish: point where the player reappears after they kill him, it is generally at the base of his team)
RSS: Its initials indicate (Really Simple Syndication). In English its meaning is "to publish articles simultaneously in different media through a source to which it belongs"; generally called "RSS feeds".

Troll: person who performs disruptive actions with the sole purpose of attracting attention and annoying.

WTF / guatafak / [9]: acronym for "What The Fuck?" (But what the fuck / fuck / shit / weá?), Expression in English to show astonishment or amazement, or to show disagreement.
WTH: acronym "What the Hell?" (What the hell?)

XXX or xxx: Simulated abbreviation of "Kisses", generally used to say goodbye to someone, in chats or email.
Exp: from English "Experience", to indicate the experience of a player, or maybe used as XP, It can also be used to express a laugh with the tongue out xP
