GIMP is a program for editing digital images in the form of bitmaps, both drawings and photographs. It is a free and open program.
The new one has already been released stable version of GIMP 2.10.36, which comes with some security fixes and in which in addition to the numerous bug fixes and security updates, new support for palette formats and a new generated gradient are also provided.

What's new in GIMP 2.10.36?
As mentioned above, GIMP 2.10.36 is a version that includes mostly bug fixes and security updates, but this does not leave aside the implementation of new functionalities, since this release presents the ASE (Adobe Swatch Exchange) and ACB (Adobe Color Book) palette support.
Another change that stands out in this new version is for the gradients, since the “FG to transparent (Hardedge)” option was added, which allows you to create a gradient that starts with the foreground color and ends with transparency, and does not use smooth transitions between the two colors.
In addition to this, in GIMP 2.10.36 added support for processing GIF images taking into account the metadata in the PixelAspectRatio header, which determines your resolution settings for different image sizes. To render with a set aspect ratio, the “Point to Point” display mode must be disabled.
On the other hand, the corrections mention that Fixed a problem with the new xf86-input-wacom 1.2.0 driver (linuxwacom) which caused GIMP to crash when using graphics tablets on the Linux platform. Many distributions have already rolled back to a previous version of the driver or applied a patch; However, the new version of GIMP also adds a workaround to prevent the issue from occurring.
As well Four vulnerabilities have been fixed that could allow code execution when processing specially designed files. All vulnerabilities are assigned a severity level of 7,8 out of 10. Details about the vulnerabilities have not yet been revealed (reports will be published before the end of January 2024).
Of the other changes that stand out of this new version:
- The Type tool has improved the way you select and edit text on the canvas.
- The theme provides visual feedback when you hover over the lock buttons and improves the lock activation indication (a padlock symbol appears in the corner).
- Added a table of contents link to the Help menu of the user manual.
- 20 translations updated
Last but not least, it is mentioned that GIMP 2.10.36 is the penultimate version of the 2.10 branch and GIMP 3.0 is arriving next year.
I think it could be the penultimate version of the 2.10 branch, although of course this is yet to be confirmed. What can happen in real life does not always go according to plans.

How to install GIMP on Linux?
