Gimp 2.8: what's next ...

The new version of this fantastic image processor is still in full development, as has commented its main developer, Marin Nordholts - with the alias of 'Enselic' - in his blog. In GIMP 2.8 we will find interesting improvements that affect both its interface and its capabilities, and although we will still have to wait a few months to enjoy this version, it seems that everything is going smoothly.

Nordholts announced long ago that the GIMP roadmap would change to specify certain specific release dates for new versions that would prevent users from all the time asking when to expect those editions. GIMp 2.8 development is a bit slower than we would like -Of course, to accelerate it we would have to collaborate and not talk so much- but what is almost certain is that we will have a Release Candidate for December 2010.

Current work is focusing on the user interface, sDo it all in one-window “integrated” mode in which are all the other "sub-windows" that until now had their own entity. With this approach we will enjoy an application similar to Photoshop in its handling and presentation of the interface, something that many demanded for a long time.
The changes also affect how to close sessions with GIMP, with a status that will be saved for the next session, and we only hope that this important Open Source tool remains on the right track.
