GNOME Split is a tool that allows us to divide files and then be able to rejoin them into one.


Some of its characteristics:

  • Split and join files using a generic format like "cat"
  • Check the integrity of files using MD5
  • They assist to facilitate the operation to new users.

The program is written in Java and uses GTK + for its graphical interface.

It has been updated to version 0.6 with these changes:

  • New upstream release.
  • Make one package for all architectures (yes, it's pure Java).
  • Update java-gnome dependency (use 4.0.15).

In order to install it on Karmic, we need to add its PPA repository:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: gnome-split-team / ppa
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install gnome-split
