GTK Elementary 3.3 theme available with visual changes

I love the visual appearance of Elementary, which in turn copies the visual appearance of OS X and the only thing I really regret is that there is no topic for KDE make it look exactly like both.

The version of 3.3 Elementary It has been released with visual changes that make it look really beautiful. Let's see some of them:

Information bar

This version includes a new set of colored information bars. White for information, blue for questions, yellow for warning, and red for errors.

Switch

The Switches, that is, the buttons to switch between Active / Inactive now instead of saying ON / OFF, only show an icon, so they become more compact:

Menu:

The spaces and the arrangement of the elements in the menus have been restructured, in addition to receiving modifications in the color palette when selecting an element:

to be part of our menus

Much more

This release is really about improvements and tweaks: the modal sheets styling has been refined, the Spinners now really rotate, the tabs are lighter and lose an extra 1px, the window buttons are drawn using fewer images, and more, a lot plus. For a list of bug fixes, check a look on the Launchpad page.

How to obtain it?

The theme will be available for Luna beta testers through the Update Manager, or they can be downloaded manually.

Download from Launchpad

Note that this topic is intended for Gtk 3.4 and does not work with GTK 3.6 or newer. Also, it only works with Mutter, so if you use Compiz, forget about it.

      I don't understand .. I don't see the resemblance to that theme with Elementary .. 😕

      1.    elav said

Upsss .. Mea culpa .. a resemblance it does have, is that I only loaded the top part of the image and had not seen the rest .. 😉

        We're going to try it.

For my taste, the Oxygen style is better integrated into KDE along with the KFaenza icon theme, thus maintaining the harmony of the KDE desktop and giving it an "Elementary" feel. Also, KFaenza comes much more complete than other icon themes that look weird. KFaenza covers KDE almost 100%.

Since they updated it they could have made it compatible with recent gtk libraries, gtk 3.4 is almost Neolithic.
And another thing, forgive my ignorance, but what does the composition manager have to do with the gtk theme? I don't get it.

    1.    elav said

The Gtk theme nothing, that is, I suppose that the buttons and others work fine, but the Mutter theme I'm not sure.

It is for elementartyOs that uses gtk 3.4 and is based on the ubuntu LTS. The gnome developers shouldn't break compatibility with every release.

      1.    pandev92 said

I don't think they break it because yes, the truth is I think they break it because in each version they add new things to the gtk and that is why the songs are no longer compatible.

No man, gnome does not break anything, only the balls ...

          1.    pandev92 said

Well, you are using it right now LOL!

        2.    vicky said

There was an article (I think it was posted here too) in which a gnome developer said that they didn't care about third-party themes and didn't put a bit of effort into not breaking anything. Basically they care little about the community ...

and what distro neolitica does gtk3.4 occupy, other than debian or the same elementary?

    1.    vicky said

You are free to make it compatible with the gtk version you want.

      1.    pandev92 said

Not everyone knows how to edit these things.

have you gone to Arch ?? GNOME is doing well for you, I say it because there are only problems in the forums.

          1.    pandev92 said

Installed from 0, no problem xD

        2.    itachi said

          Sabayon has not convinced you?

          1.    pandev92 said

Sure, but I wanted to set up a more minimalist system and to my liking, nothing more. I have sabayon on the other pc.

          2.    itachi said

I am now testing GNOME. For now I'm liking it ...

          3.    itachi said

especially because you can't see the videos with the tired blinking I've always had, what's that called ???

          4.    pandev92 said

            flicker? tearing oO?

          5.    itachi said

that tearing hehehe is the first time that does not happen to me, a point for GNOME

          6.    pandev92 said

AHAHAH ok, they are things that solve with mutter, do you have an intel graphic OO !?

          7.    itachi said

if I have intel, for ??

          8.    pandev92 said

because intel tends to give many problems with tearing depending on the environment ...

Well I use this in KDE http://islingt0ner.deviantart.com/art/N-7-Theme-Pack-211477869 and more than happy, that if additionally you have to install smaragd for the window frames.

      smaragd? Is that eaten?

In other words, in a nutshell, it is exclusive to Gnome in Debian Testing ... or what other distro currently occupies Gnome 3.4?

        1.    pandev92 said

Ubuntu uses gtk 3.4 anyway, at least 12.04, we are talking about gtk and not mutter.

As you have reading problems, I have already noticed that it is not the first time that you do not notice or understand what is in an article or a comment, I repeat the last paragraph of the article, which was what I started my other comment with:
Please note that this topic is intended for Gtk 3.4 and does not work with GTK 3.6 or newer. Also, it only works with Mutter, so if you use Compiz, forget it. "

Now I repeat only the last part, but with capital letters, so that you read it better:
"Also, IT ONLY WORKS WITH MUTTER, so IF YOU USE COMPIZ, FORGET IT"

As you can read, if you pay attention now, IF IT IS ABOUT MUTTER, not just the gtk's.

      ElementaryOs 😛

This is a comment from the developers

"After Luna, we'll be working on a huge overhaul of the theming behind the scenes to update it to the latest GTK and better utilize the new advanced CSS features available."
Apparently updating the theme to the new versions of GTK is going to take a lot of work due to the new functionalities that these provide. This will surely be available for Luna + 1
Although knowing the elementary team this may be in 5 years 😛

We start with Debian Wheezy with a good part of distros that are based on it using the same desktop and we are adding Ubuntu Precise with a large part of its own derivatives such as Elementary itself, so we continue with Linux Mint Maya where Cinnamon runs on Gnome 3.4 and we already see that they are not so few.

To make matters worse in a while when the end of the support that is now nine months for the semester editions of Ubuntu and distros based on these that use gnome 3.6 or gnome 3.8 many other people will still use Gnome 3.4 on the LTS and on Debian stable .

      1.    pandev92 said

translated, only outdated debs distros that are based on old ubuntu or debian.

    Elav: smaragd? Is that eaten?

Too bad I don't, I eat almost everything hehe, because nothing is a manager for emerald window frames for KDE, it's easy to use
Smaragd is installed, this will create the .emerald folder in the hidden files of our home, if not, we create it, and within a theme folder, so that .emerald / theme, we download the emerald theme that we like , we unzip it and place it in the theme folder and we already have emerald windows in KDE.
