How to get a life? (for Linux geeks)

Many times my friends have told me: «get a life»… Alluding to the fact that according to them, I am an antisocial.

Well, I don't like parties ... I don't like discos, I am a lover of good music, so I hate reggeaton (I listen to rock, alternative, punk, romantic, opera, etc). If you add to this that I do NOT like crowds, that is, I CANNOT stand being surrounded by strangers, who do not know ... well, that's why they tell me that I am an "antisocial."

Well, because of that and because I spend hours and hours in "my world" (as they say), which translates into me programming something on my laptop, writing a post, or something like that.

And since I'm a little fed up with being told this ... well, I've decided to make a life for myself:

Hala, the criticism is over right? ¬_¬

Yes, I like it ... no no, I love being on my laptop but I'm NOT playing games, I don't waste my time but rather everything or the opposite ... I spend hours and hours working, programming something to make life easier for someone or simply writing a post or tutorial for share my knowledge.

Why don't they criticize others? ... yes, those who spend every night from party to party without doing anything productive, those who play very high reggeaton in the neighborhood, those others who spend hours and hours playing on the PC, or those others who simply do not contribute nothing even on the net. 0_oU

Come on, leave those you call "weirdos" alone, we are the ones who have always made the world move forward, yes ... for example, didn't they call Eistein "weird" at the beginning?

I said 😀

    well, the truth is that I have seen myself as an anomaly.
    To begin with, in my faculty, there are only 4 women (already a rarity in itself) and I am the most passionate user of GNU / linux, and of course, I have good grades in my programming classes: D,

    surprisingly I get along well with almost everyone I know, even though my mother says I have a horrible character (sarcastic, self-centered, reserved, suspicious, know-it-all and somewhat neurotic). LOL…. do not believe it ¬¬

    I have the strangest tastes for music, (noise rock, hardcore punk, avant-garde, alternative rock, noise..etc) but I also listen to what others listen to, (to go unnoticed) I still like some songs by Belanova, miranda! And so xDDDD, I have some reggaeton songs because honestly I start laughing listening to them with my sister hahaha, I'm good at pretending I'm normal…. I think hahaha

    On top of that, we put that I watch anime and read a lot of manga, I like to take things apart, I hardly like activities in the sun, so I look pale, that I cut my hair in a strange way (and they think I'm emo, but NO !) I don't like to wear branded clothes, I know what anarcho-syndicalism means, I read (here it's weird xDD) and others… .. I think they classify me as weird all the time. but I live calm with that ^^

    1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

      Well, it is rare to find a woman who likes to program ... and, a woman who likes Linux a lot, uff ... almost as difficult as finding a T-Rex nowadays LOL !.

      but I also listen to what others hear, (to go unnoticed)

      HAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!

      I listen to everything, I have had to learn to listen to everything because well ... at home I can't always play Nightwish or Slipknot, my mother kills me LOL !!

      Sun? ... O_O ... uff stop, just tell you that I HATE the beach is enough right? ... I don't like the beach, and neither do the pools, as I said ... I don't like the crowd

      Manga I hardly even read anymore, I just don't have time 🙁… also, there are few series since I find them truly original and interesting ¬_¬

      Uff, I have realized that we are sooo "weird" right? … Hehe, go ahead brothers and sisters, let's take over the power of the world !!! HAHAHA

    2.    wpgabriel said

      at least you have colleagues, in my class none and above I'm the only one who uses gnu linux.

    I liked this article, xD ... You are right in every word ... Right now Saturday, 4:XNUMX in the afternoon any boy in a pool, or on the street, or in anything else, one here in front of the PC trying to get out of a problem that breaks the coconut, hehe, or simply reading, learning ... Sitting quietly, a little music that relaxes you ... And thinking what to do again, what I can change on the PC ... I'm happy as I am ... And those who as you say They call others "weirdos", they are the same ones who ask for help every second, at school you try them and when adults… Well….
    From 1 to 10 you have an 11 hehehe ...

    1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

      «And those who, as you say, call others“ weirdos ”, are the same ones who ask for help every second»

      EXACT!!!

      We are the ones who make the world move forward, that simple
      The most capable survive, the smartest make their way ... or it really should be.

        The weird thing is neither good nor bad, what is done being weird yes. The fear of being weird may be absolutely natural because going out of the ordinary always brings problems, but it must still be overcome. You should not be afraid of being weird but of being worse than being common. The things we have, the bases of nations and cultures were forged on the blood of the marginalized and exploited. Are we going to be proud of being so because the world revolves thanks to the pawns? How many rare have Einsteins been and how rare have they been? Very few. What counts is why the person acts strange according to others, not feeling special in front of others for acting differently ... that they can be making a fool of themselves not only in front of them but in front of oneself.

    Although I do not program, many of the things you describe are similar to me as well, I do not like discos (I prefer to drink with acquaintances quietly and discuss various topics), I do not like being in crowds (including at university) and I spend it long periods of time reading articles and opinions on various websites to later share my personal point of view or report via the web through my blog http://libuntu.wordpress.com

    true to my musical tastes (mainly grunge: nirvana, soundgarden, alice in chains, peral jam ...) I recommend that you put into practice Kurt Cobain's motto: «most people make fun of me because I'm different, I make fun of them because they are all the same. "

      The same happens to me. I prefer to go to a restaurant or some quiet place (even at home) and talk with my friends, that in the group we all feel as a family, without external variables that may bother ¬_¬

        I can't believe it, they are my double jojojo. Before I felt a little weird, but now that I started college I no longer (or yes, almost everyone likes anime and I don't), but hey, in the end I feel more comfortable, more "in my habitat" hahaha 😀

    I believe that there are no stereotypes or patterns to follow. Each one is as it is. Or how they gave birth to him or according to the milk he suckled. Fortunately. There are those who study hard and get excellent grades and a brilliant career and then in practice turns out to be a chump. It also tends to happen the other way around, who does not study and never passes and in the end, against obstacles and cliffs, manages to finish their studies and, however, later they manage to place themselves in the best positions in life. I think the best thing is to influence doing what one likes to do. The worst thing of all would be to do what one likes above all, which is to do nothing. Doing nothing leads to nothing, forgive the redundancy.

        By the way, I have installed several friends and family Linux-based distributions. And many like to get rid of viruses, and Gnome Shell. It makes them novel and they take a liking to it quickly.

            For the rest, I notice a certain air of Sheldon Coopen in the post ...

    I also don't go to discos (or bowling alleys) for reasons of conscience and I'm ALIVE !!! The big problem is that if you don't do what most people do, you're weird. If you don't use Win you're weird. If you don't have an account in Hotmail you're weird, if you don't have an account in the «Feis» you're weird, if you're a fan of a second division club you're weird. But it does not mean that one does not have life.

    What makes one feel alive is being happy. If computing makes us happy, what is the problem? We are happy and we are alive.

    1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

    Geek! Just kidding, if what you say is true, however it is also curious that the profile of people who are dedicated to this are very similar (especially young people) either in musical tastes or in tastes such as comics, manga, etc.
    The issue of looking for a life is more complicated since it is a matter of priorities. If people do not know how to use the language in a correct way, it is their problem, not yours; because the subject of "life" is too subjective.

    It is important not to be "ashamed" of having different tastes. It's quite the opposite.
    Do not give free support to windows. You already know the excuse is: "I use Linux" from windows, I know how to press start and little else. On top of that they call you a geek laughing at your differences then they are the first to call.
    Being weird is great, a bit fucked up at school sometimes, over 20-25 years you already make yourself the character and it does not interfere at all in a normal life, even richer than that of others with its abhorrent distractions.

    Ay ay ayyy boys and girls .. With each comment I read I feel more like "at home". Although the truth is that I differ a bit from you in some aspects.

    To me programming, Try Linux distros, play in MAME and ZSNES, watch Full Metal Alchemist and stay watching Blogs like this are the things I like to do the most in this life, among hundreds of others that involve being almost 80% Of the time in front of a computer, However, sometimes I would like to be a little ... just a little like the others. Except in music because my tastes are well defined (Linkin Park, Lil Wayne, David Guetta, Avicii, Reggaeton from a very pokito and less and less, and recently Skrillex ... better said, I listen to WHAT THEY PAY ME ¡¡¡xD ).

    Apart from that if I would like to learn to relate better with people in the real world, and not so much with those that I only know on the internet, and then you already know: having friends with my tastes, going out with them to the park or staying with them in home on Saturday nights, and never again be alone those days because being alone although well it bores me. And why not: Having the love of a pretty girl who has common interests with me («Appearance attracts, but that he likes Linkin Park ENAMORAAA ... hehehehehe)

    Being in company is something that we all need, in addition to being good for our mental health. However I want to be in that middle point, in that perfect mix between Geek and what people consider "normal." Knowing how to have fun without going to extremes and being sober as much as possible; And without neglecting the great love I feel for my side Introvert Geek (Which sometimes is attractive to some ... xD).

    In conclusion, If you asked me to program and run my "life.sh", I would put the best of both worlds in the code, with a lot of knowledge of the world, well educated to know "a little bit of everything", in addition to a good dose of personality own, and of course friends like you, who know well where they stand. AND NOW IF: «SH /LIFE.SH» .. xDD

    PS: I'm writing from Güindows because I just finished playing "King Of Fighters" in the emulator. Total that SO only serves to play ... xDDDD 😀

    Terrible. Those who spend hours typing commands versus Linux know what I'm talking about. It is obvious that they are very useful for finding files, for example, but who ever thought of finding a girlfriend using commands?

    Surely, now that you know that it is possible, you will wonder what are the appropriate commands to get the girl of your dreams. Relax, I prepared a detailed guide for you through the entire search process, until you reach the happy meeting. What are you waiting for?

    Note that under each step is the corresponding command that you should use

    1. We will start by looking for a girlfriend.
    $ aptitude search girlfriend

    2. We keep it.
    $ aptitude install girlfriend

    3. We look at its attributes.
    $ stat girlfriend

    4. We compare it with another that we have been testing for a week.
    $ cmp girlfriend the_other

    5. We check for connection.
    $ ping girlfriend

    6. And how is this connection.
    $netstat

    7. Yes, we definitely kept it. We make sure she knows that we are her boyfriend ...
    $ chown me girlfriend

    8.… and that he cannot be unfaithful to us…
    $ chmod 700 girlfriend

    9. We mold it to our liking.
    $ cat 90-60-90 >> girlfriend

    10. We go to a party at a friend's house and we get "romantic."
    We are going to an isolated, hidden place.
    $ cd .bedroom_parents_friend

    11. We check that there is no one else.
    $ls -a

    12. We connect in the traditional way.
    $ ssh me @ girlfriend

    13. If we want a kiss or something else, we just have to tell them.
    $ ssh -p kiss me @ girlfriend

    14. We part ways, for the moment.
    $ exit

    15. We tidy up and clean the room a bit.
    $clear

    16. Nine months later our girlfriend gives birth.
    $ tar -xzvf girlfriend.tar.gz

    17. Due to pressure from the families, we decided to formalize the relationship and get married.
    We founded a family with all that it entails.
    $ addgroup family
    $ adduser girlfriend family
    $ adduser child family
    $ alias relative = "girlfriend"
    $ alias child = "child"

    See how easy? It's amazing how computing changes our lives. And Linux

      That good!! I couldn't stop laughing. I killed myself as I gave birth, luckily you didn't add –force, it looks more like a caesarean section.
      Very good!

    Well, I thought it was almost unique but I see that it is not and I like that 🙂.
    I like more to be on the PC learning either computer security, programming, among other things, but if I can be with my girlfriend then I leave everything and go with her. But they don't tell me weird or anything in fact they are amazed at what I know.

    @KZ always remember this phrase attributed to Don Quixote (I say attributed because I grew upset that it does not exist in this literal form in the book):
    »LADRAN SANCHO, SIGN THAT WE ARE MOVING FORWARD»

    And that's how it is man, those who hopefully get sporadic sparks, the only two neurons they seem to have, will never understand us, that we like music of all kinds, that we have insatiable curiosity about everything, that we like to think, have challenges, blah blah blah, welcome to% 1 of humanity! They won't understand us because their poor simple minds would be shocked if they did! LOL

    As my Sr. one round that we were returning home by bike and we passed a couple of entities listening to shouting cumbia with their cell phones on the street: they return to the trees at any time!

      I forgot, in your case to get a life I think it would be something like
      # apt-get install life.sh right?

      The problem is that I don't know which repository to add… ^ _ ^
