Doesn't the label automatically assigned to your discs seem very unintuitive to you? Does that shortcut on your desktop or in Nautilus that says "120GB SATA Disk Drive" tell you something? Well, here is a very simple way to re-label your disks, under GNOME. |
1.- System> Administration> Disk Utility, or from a terminal: palimpsest.
2.- Choose the hard drive that contains the volume (that is, the partition) that you want to change the label for.
3.- In the graph that appears in the center of the screen, displaying the volumes that make up the selected hard drive, click on the volume for which you want to change the label.
4.- Click on Dismount volume.
5.- Click on Edit partition and enter the tag name you like best. For example, Windows, backup, etc.
6.- Finally, click on Mount volume.
Note: this tip also works for your USB drives. Just make sure you have connected your USB drive before doing step 1.
Oh thanks!
I thought it was the same as all files (give it a rename), therefore I never tried.
I'll see it right now.
Regards!
good post I congratulate you and I wanted to know how to do that in a simple way Thank you men go ahead
I tried but the option appears disabled 🙁
The option is not enabled for me either! What to do in that case?
I don't see the option "Disk Utility" or anything like that, nor is the palimsest command installed. I look in synaptic and it doesn't show up.
I use Guadalinex V6 (derived from ubuntu).
Any suggestion?
Thank you very much, it worked very well for me ... =)
Of course. 🙂
A hug! Paul.
