How to Install Ubuntu on an Android device

A little app called ubuntu-installer for Android, available at Android Market, lets you do just that: install Ubuntu on our smartphone.

The application itself is an installer for an adapted version of Ubuntu with LXDE desktop, well, actually there are two, one light and one heavier that includes all the necessary programs to start working, and even with its own software center called Ubuntu Update Manager.

This version is fully optimized for ARM devices, allows you to run both systems at the same time and even set the screen size at startup to suit the type of device.

The requirements to execute it are:

  • Have root permissions
  • 1 GHz processor (recommended)
  • Android 2.1 or higher
  • Kernel will loop device support (this is included in most ROM's)
  • SD card with at least 3,5 GB free space for the large image (2,5 GB for the small image)
  • Data connection
  • Ext2 file system support

Before testing it, check that your device is on the list of supported devices.

Requires Android 2.2+ I had my hopes up when reading the post 🙁

I answer myself: In the description it says 2.1 but in the market it says 2.2, I have sent an email to the developer in case it is a typographical error.
