How to install Xfce 4.10 on Ubuntu 12.04

Users Xfce en Ubuntu (o Xubuntu) you are in luck since Lionel le folgoc has updated its PPA and can be installed through it, the latest version of Xfce 4.10.

To do this they only have to add in the file / Etc / apt / sources.list the following line:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/mrpouit/ppa/ubuntu precise main

and later update using the Update Manager or the terminal, as you prefer. I honestly have not tried installing it on Ubuntu, so doing this is at your own risk. Today I will see if I can install it using this way in Debian Testing. 😀

Very good news, if possible keep us posted if you manage to install it on Debian.

I'm going to try it, hope it works. I do not see the time that comes out for Debian Testing, does anyone know when the packages will upload to the repositories?

What good news! Right now I am reinstalling Xubuntu 12.04 on my netbook, after having tried LMDE 201204. The problem is that in the first installation it gave me an error: it could not find the "swap". I'm going to see if now that I have edited partitions manually I don't have the above problem.

Great! Now I'm going to try it. I had downloaded the sources and compiled them, but I don't know why I didn't want to install them. I'm going to try this updated PPA. Thanks 🙂

Well, better not. When adding the repository I got this message:

(Please note that packages will be moved to https://launchpad.net/~xubuntu-dev/+archive/xfce-4.10 in a few hours)

So for a few hours I prefer to wait and add the official PPA from the developers. But thank you very much for the news 😀

Well, it's your decision and I respect it. What happens that in the PPA of the developers says:

Xfce 4.10 packages for Xubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin).

Please note that only Xfce 4.8 is officially supported on Xubuntu 12.04. Therefore, any bug report filed with this PPA enabled is likely to get rejected, or you may be asked to reproduce the issue with Xfce 4.8. The first Xubuntu release to feature Xfce 4.10 will be Xubuntu 12.10 (codename unknown for now).

So I don't think they really update anything for now.

You are right. I am disappointed in the thing. Almost 7 hours later there is still nothing. I'll install Le Folgoc's 😀

Well, I'm writing to you from a LiveCD that I have in a memory with Xfce 4.10 en Xubuntu 12.04. Those PPAs work great. You just have to add that you have to install a package that does not show the updates: libxfce4ui.

Then I'm going to do it, if I charge it I'll let you know

Do not do that peta xfce-utils that is nice xD
      I'm going back to 4.8

Sure because you didn't read the comment I put:

Those PPAs work great. You just have to add that you have to install a package that does not show the updates: libxfce4ui.

I repeat, in Xubuntu 12.04 they work great. 😀

Of course I read it well 😛 If I have already fixed it and it is working, what happens is that I have not been here to tell you yet.

Can someone help me please? Install this environment with the following command; "Sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop" and it ran fine and everything, but since in the end I didn't quite like it at all "I removed it" and it also worked but now when it is starting or shutting down the Xubuntu screen appears and not it from Ubuntu. I really don't like that (I know it's not bad or anything but I don't like it) please if someone could help me I would really appreciate it.

In synaptic look for xubuntu and among those packages will be the boot splash (I think that's what it's called) just remove it and select the one from ubuntu.

I already looked for it ... but it's not there, anyway thanks, I think you already gave me an idea 🙂

If I add the item, places, in the upper box I configure it to show icon and label when restarting it does not preserve the configuration. I don't know how to add a screenshot, I hope you understand me

Is anything known about Xfce in Debian? Actually I use LMDE, but the repositories are the same.

Excellent, in fact I have Ubuntu 12:04 with unity and I'm installing Xfce 4.10, to see how it works, lol, I had already tried previous versions.
