This is a great tip that, thanks to the people of OMG! ubuntu, it can be useful for those who have little space available on their computer: automatically delete downloaded packages during updates once they have finished successfully. |
Steps to follow
By default, Synaptic caches downloaded packages during updates. This can be very useful when you want to reinstall a package without having to download it again, consuming bandwidth, yours and the server.
How to prevent Synaptic from saving packages and remove the huge cache that you probably have accumulated on your computer occupying several GiBs of space? Easy…
- I opened Synaptic (System> Administration> Synaptic Package Manager)
- I opened the preferences dialog. (Settings> Preferences)
- I chose the Files tab.
- I chose the option Delete packages after installation.
This prevents the accumulation of packages in the cache from now on. How to erase what has already been accumulated?
- In the same dialog, press the button that says Delete packages from the cache.
- Click Apply and then OK.
Very useful. Even for those who do have enough space.
I'm quite a cleaning freak, and I also extrapolate that to my OS.
