HP decides to release WebOS

In recent months it was said that the company may have decided to stop working on its mobile operating system, but has finally made the decision to offer it in a spirit.

After all, offering it as free software makes them external developers those who work on it, in a way that considerably reduces the budget necessary for WebOS to continue alive in the full boom of smartphones and tablets.

Yes, this Linux-based platform for mobile devices will “come back to life” and, in this rebirth, HP will distribute it as free software; In other words, HP will release the code for this operating system and, in addition, will continue to contribute to the project by developing and offering support, however, thanks to this movement, HP hopes that the birth of a community of developers around the project that contribute to its growth. Logically, some details still have to be closed for the WebOS project to be active again, for example, who will govern this community and set the course that developments should follow.

And what community model does HP want for WebOS? According to Mashable sources, HP would want a model similar to Fedora / RedHat, that is, HP would reserve the right to decide (and filter) the developments that would be part of the operating system updates that would be applied to closed products or with support (as with RedHat).

From the point of view of customers who purchased a TouchPad, this announcement means that they no longer have an isolated and unsupported device since, at the moment this community starts, it is logical to think that the WebOS ecosystem is working on updates and applications for These devices. And will more HP-made WebOS devices arrive? Faced with this question, HP has not commented on this matter so, for now, it is difficult to say that the expected printers, or desktop PCs with WebOS, will return again to the portfolio of products that HP hopes to launch one day.
