Install Elementary theme in Ubuntu

Elementary has become one of the most downloaded themes for GTK and there really are reasons for that being so, since not only is very polished rather, it is part of a range of important projects (such as Nautilus Elementary, an improved version of Nautilus) encompassed under the name of ElementaryOS.

Installation

1.- I opened a terminal and wrote:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: elementaryart / ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gtk2-engines-aurora gtk2-engines-murrine elementary-theme elementary-icon-theme

2.- System> Preferences> Appearance and I chose the Elementary theme.

Exchanges

1.- If you don't like the mouse pointer Dark. In System> Preferences> Appearance, I chose the Elementary theme and clicked the button Customize now. Then select the Pointer tab and choose the option Default pointer.

2.- To activate the "Dark mode", I opened a terminal and wrote:

sudo gedit /usr/share/themes/elementary/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

Where says: include "Apps / panel.rc"

Replace it with: Apps / panel-dark.rc

Save and write in a terminal:

killall gnome-panel

This will turn the light gray of the subject into a dark gray. 🙂

Nautilus Elementary

For everything to look perfect it is recommended to install the improved version of Nautilus, the file explorer that comes with GNOME: Nautilus Elementary.

I opened a terminal and wrote:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: am-monkeyd / nautilus-elementary-ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
nautilus-q

To enable breadcrumbs, I opened Nautilus> Edit> Preferences> Settings> Show as breadcrumbs.

Do you know how I can install this theme in Ubuntu Jaunty? thanks!

It may be possible to download the theme "manually" from deviantart or gnome-look. 🙂
Anyway, it would be recommended that you update your system, right?
    A hug! Paul.

When trying to install it, it tells me that it does not recognize the add-apt instruction. What I can do? I have Ubuntu Jaunty

For various reasons it will not work for you on Jaunty.
    1) add-apt-repository only works from Karmic
    2) There are no DEB packages from Nautilus Elementary (the program you want to install) for Jaunty.

Even if there are DEB packages to install it on Jaunty, the procedure is much more cumbersome. Once again, I recommend that you upgrade to a newer Ubuntu version (preferably the latest).

    A greeting! Paul.

Hello, I would like to know if it is better to install the elementary theme in ubuntu or install elementary os, and wait for me to install elementary luna.

That is very difficult to answer ... it depends on your tastes and needs. Both Ubuntu and Elementary OS are good distros whose strength is their "visual appeal", to call it somehow.
    Cheers! Paul.
