Install FirefoxOS applications on the Desktop

Those of us who are entering the world of Firefox OS, we will find a good number of applications in the Marketplace from Mozilla, and some are so interesting, that we would like to try them or have them on our computer.

Unfortunately this had not been possible so far in Linux, but we can do it now, although I clarify: Not all of them can be installed and some of them may not work properly.

Installation

If the application you want to install is paid, you should consult this link so that they know how to deposit money

If you want to try your luck, you should only have the latest available version of Mozilla Firefox (Nightly) and follow the next steps:

1.- We access the Marketplace by Mozilla.

Marketplace

2.- We authenticate using Mozilla Personas (next to the search engine the option will appear Sing in)

3.- When we finish the authentication process, we look for the application that we want to install, or we simply explore among those that are available.

Marketplace_Games

4.- We select the one we want and we will know if it can be installed, when the button that says Free in blue (If it is already installed it will say Launch).

App_Free

If everything goes well, we can use the applications. How do we look for them? Simple.

In KDE it is possible for applications to run in Menu »Applications» Lost Property. Or simply type the name in the Menu search engine and that's it.

App_Menu

If it does not appear in the menu or in any other tool to launch applications, then we can look for them within our ~ / home. Generally we can find it with the name of the application and a series of numbers behind it, for example:

/home/elav/.pasjanssolitaire-f1011b735a8d5af8b18bdc70a020eb2a/

Removing the application

To remove the application, all we have to do is delete the folders where the applications were installed, because for the moment, in GNU / Linux there is no decent support for this task.

Applications

Many of these applications are totally responsive Design. Here are some screenshots in operation:

The truth is that the option of installing applications in the browser without installing a Firefox OS emulator looks interesting. If it can be done in Iceweasel, I would just download it without a second thought.

In iceweasel it is also possible. Successfully tested on raspbian.

I had tried it a long time ago, as I remember in unity the applications appear in the dock. and by secondary clicking it, the option to uninstall the application appeared

I'm in xfce and it works, what's more, the app is classified in the xfce sections, for example wikipedia appears in "Education".

    Greetings.

Okay, right now I'm testing tweetdeck and it works great. You have to try other applications. And in the case of Gnome, the applications you install go to the "Other" menu

I have tried a few applications and I have been uninstalling them by deleting the hidden folder as you mentioned, the problem is that I cannot reinstall them again:

When I return to the market and look for an application that I previously eliminated, I get the Launch button, as if it were already on my computer and I don't know how to tell it that I deleted it, so it won't let me install it second.

Does anyone know how to reinstall previously deleted apps?

    Thank you.

    By the way.

I have noticed that applications cannot be run if you are not connected to the internet.

Is there a way to avoid this?

Thanks for the post! I did not know where the installed applications were installed. 🙂
I also wanted to comment that in gnome-shell you can also search and run Firefox Web Apps like any other application.
