I just found out thanks to dot.kde.org of this pleasant news.
The project Trinity is responsible for this ... it happens that as many remember, KDE 3.5 was discontinued and with it Qt3 and all its applications, it happened a few years ago to give way to KDE4 (Qt4). KDE 3.5 "ended" in v3.5. 10, at least that's how it was thought 😉
A new version of TDE (Trinity Desktop Environment) has been released, which is now KDE 3.5. 13 😀
Packages are available for Debian, Ubuntu y FedoraHere are the details of this new version:
- Added new module or section called «Monitor and Display»To the Control Center, this will allow you to configure what is related to the screen, display.
- Integration with applications like Firefox o NetworkManager now it will be with the new client of DBus.
- A new window composer (that is, what draws or makes the effects, transparencies, etc.) has been included, multiple applications (such as Amarok for example) already take advantage of this change.
- A new style or theme for Widgets has been included: Asteroid. Now mixing gtk-qt has been improved.
- An extra / optional security key has been added, which will improve security in lock / lock and login dialogs.
- krandr now has DPMS support for Gamma settings.
But not only that, there are also new applications that are included:
- kbookreader
- kdbusnotification
- kmymoney
- kstreamripper
Lots of changes to the way I see it.
Those of us who were fortunate enough to try KDE 3 at some point, those of us who still feel nostalgic for this great and wonderful environment ... we no longer have to continue suffering at night, we can now return to those days when Qt3 reigned on our computer 😀
I leave two screenshots of this environment:
Greetings and don't forget to visit the Trinity website, either for details, news or downloads: Trinity Desktop

And the windows are crappy as hell
KDE3 was never my saint, 5 years ago when I started in Linux my first distro was Knoppix I tried it in Live mode and when I saw all the applications it had, and it was a crowd, I was discouraged, a friend told me to try Ubuntu and from then on I stayed with Gnome, this year I started using KDE4, it was more pleasant for me.
Well, it is likely that tomorrow I will install Debian with Gnome, once again, of course, this time it will be with Gnome 3.
It is working very well, you will not regret it, well I mean Gnome Alternative, I don't know how it will work with Gnome Shell, the only thing I have not been able to find is how to change the icons. A comment I tried in Live mode Fedora 15 and Gnome3 worked for me without problems.
but do it soon because you have us all on edge with this soap opera ... 😀
