KDE Telepathy will bring interesting improvements

The instant messaging application of KDE SC It is taking shape (something I'm glad to be able to replace Pidgin once and for all) and its developers show us some interesting changes they have been working on in the past Sprint of the month of April.

KDE Telepathy with Groups

It was something that we support at a level basic, but, since none of us I use it daily, did not receive the attention it deserved.

Acknowledged David edmundson in the article that wrote talking about what's new. But they have taken the reins in the matter and the visual changes are evident. Now the conversations are better organized and in general, the appearance of the application is much better.

KDE Telepathy Groups

It will also be possible to chat via SMS using KDE Telepathy. During the sprint Albert Cow (creator of KDE Connect) Y Alexander Akulich they worked In the manufacture of un backend for Telepathy that allows communication with KDE Connect. Esto will allow us to receive SMS messages from our phone and respond through a comfortable and familiar chat interface on the desk.

They also worked on fixing numerous bugs, and managed to reduce the errors from 62 to less than 50 in just one weekend. It was left pending for discussion on the mailing list, if they give better support to popular services like Facebook, G+ (which change APIs and underwear), or focus on improving open protocols like Jabber.

The future

Plasma Next, what will become the KDE of the future is getting closer and closer. Visual and performance improvements are becoming evident and KDE Telepathy couldn't be left behind. The image that I will show below I was quite excited, because if I'm not mistaken, it is something very similar to the GNOME Shell notification system when a message comes in, which I must say is amazing.

KDE Telepathy Next

It only remains to be seen if KDE Telepathy en succeeds in unseating Pidgin on my computer. There is still a long way to go, so that will be seen.

It doesn't look bad, in fact, it still made me want to try it again ... as long as they fix that bug it has, that when I minimize it to the taskbar, it makes it seem like it disconnects; and when I restore it, it takes its time connecting again, as if I had logged out. The worst thing is that due to the amount of contacts I have (I use Gtalk and Facebook chat), I use a lot of cpu.

For now, I'm staying with Kopete, apart from being a native of my lands.

I have been using KDE for years, but I find it very difficult for them to get pidgin out of my kde. Since pidgin I use it even in Windows xD

It is very interesting how Telepathy is evolving although I think it is missing to be at the height of Pidgin since to cite an example it does not yet have an OTR functionality but little by little it is approaching it

With the current one, if they write me a message while I'm gone, the white envelope is flashing. When I open it the chat window is empty, and it forces me to go to FB to see the old message, I don't know what's up.

The icons are terribly out of date ... I want to think that these interfaces are made by people without design studies ... otherwise it is amazing. The default appearance of GNOME seems much more stylized than that of KDE, although KDE is an all-rounder and it is my favorite, it has serious problems in the "Design by default" section (I know that it can be customized to your liking) .

And yes, I also know about the KDE Design group, a group that, by the way, gives one of lime and another of sand x)

The integration with KDE is fine, that is what is requested.
