Kubernetes 1.14 is now available from Canonical, and this new version comes loaded with significant new features (improved compatibility and integration, support for Windows nodes, improvements to kubectl, improvements to kubeadm, etc.). Canonical hardly needs an introduction, as it's a company we all know, especially for the Ubuntu distribution, among other projects, and the important Kubernetes project is equally well-known. Now, these two big names are joining forces to enter the enterprise sector and offer customers comprehensive solutions.
Canonical has announced full enterprise support for Kubernetes 1.14 and its use with Kubeadm, Charmed Kubernetes, and MicroK8s implementations, among others. As you know, MicroK8s provides Kubernetes on any Linux desktop, server, or virtual machine, supporting over 40 distributions, as well as macOS and Windows with multipass. Meanwhile, Charmed Kubernetes users will be able to upgrade seamlessly to Kubernetes 1.14, regardless of their hardware or virtual machine.
You probably already know that kubeadm is an important tool that allows us to easily deploy a Kubernetes cluster, creating it on both physical and virtual machines. This makes it very easy to have this software up and running to automatically deploy, scale, and manage application containers that are in high demand in today's enterprise and cloud computing environments.
With this latest move, Canonical strengthens its position in the enterprise sector , competing with the two largest players in this field: Red Hat and SuSE. This ensures that all implementations and developers working with containers on Ubuntu GNU/Linux distributions can benefit from the latest Kubernetes features as soon as they become available.
