La Capitaine: An icon pack inspired by macOS and Google Material Design

A lie that is often told by users of other operating systems is that "Linux is Ugly", I honestly think that it is a pretty wrong thinking, that has been maintained over time and that perhaps could have been "accepted" many years ago. What is true is Linux is getting prettier, usable and lightweight, its developers have also taken on the task of creating more and more customizations to give Linux the face that everyone wants.

In that work of giving Linux what each user group wants, it was born The Capitaine un icon pack Pretty nice looking that's inspired by macOS and Google's Material Design. icon pack

What is La Capitaine icon theme?

La Capitaine is a fork of "The General icon theme", "Antü" and "Super Flat Remix", the attributions to the license and its consequences are the obligation of the owners of the themes.

La Capitaine is a beautiful, delicate and modern icon pack, designed by Keefer rourke in order to have an icon theme that integrates with most desktop environments. Keefer has managed to nicely combine the latest MacOS designs and Google design stuff, bringing a fresh look.

Each image in this theme is a scalable vector graphic made with Inkscapeso they look great at any size, on any screen. Its creator works hard to incorporate new icons, so the pack is constantly updated.

How to install La Capitaine icon theme?

Users of most Linux distros can install La Capitaine by cloning the official icon theme repository in the folder .icons. Next you must run the file ./configure In order for the theme to adapt to your distribution and desktop environment, this will update the system icons among others.

To perform this procedure, open a console and run the following commands:

cd $ HOME / .icons git clone https://github.com/keeferrourke/la-capitaine-icon-theme.git cd la-capitaine-icon-theme ./configure

Install La Capitaine icon theme on Arch Linux and Derivatives

Arch Linux users and derivatives can enjoy La Capitaine icon theme thanks to AUR, to do this run the following commands from the terminal:

yaourt -Syu yaourt -S la-capitaine-icon-theme-git

This icon pack will surely give a new image to your Linux desktop, remember that you can combine them with the hundreds of themes made for the various desktop environments. We would also like to see some screenshots with the results of the icons on your desktop.

To give an example, here I leave mine, in my new (and not at all personalized) Antergos with Plasma 5.9.

Sorry, but I find it in very bad taste to say that this "artist" designed the entire set of icons, since he only forged the Antü and Super Flat Remix themes. Here they never gave a "platform" to those issues, even Antü, which was created by a Spanish speaker.

To make matters worse, this subject was months without respecting the licenses of the subjects, never mentioned the ORIGINAL authors, had the creator of Antü claim it.

Excuse me Miguel, but in that case it is the creators of La Capitaine who should mention about it, we are giving a review of the icon themes, which we tried and we liked ... We have never intended to detract from anyone ... But it is a topic that we do not know, because even on the official website of this topic there is no information regarding Antu or Super Flat Remix.

In the same way, based on comments from the creator of Antu, we will add additional information to the article

Linux does not seem ugly to me, in fact KDE is the most beautiful desktop that I have used in my life, but the truth is that if someone finds it ugly, adding other icons based on OS X will not make linux "nice", but it will be ugly linux with mac icons to make it less ugly

I share your opinion, in fact the operating system that seems ugly to me is Windows 7… As for the best interface, I prefer Gnome for appearance and ease of use [My opinion]

Ahh another thing, he earned the reputation of being ugly, because it was back there before 2004, that everything was difficult and the developers gave more importance to other things than to the appearance of the program

If there's one thing I miss about Linux when I'm using MacOS, it's customization. In MAC I have the same icon pack that everyone has, the same themes that everyone else. The only thing that I have different from the other MacOS is the wallpaper.

If Microsoft Windows copied the Mac in its early days; if now they announce as their own -Microsfot- the idea of the multiple desktops that I use since Debian 3 "Sarge"; If it is known that everyone tries to copy Apple's designs, what is the importance in the world of Free Software to make a possible mix of icon styles? Every day I am more convinced that the best and worst of Linux are its lovers.

    Free Software is Beautiful!
