We dive once more into the magical world of "The Twilight Zone (LDD): There is Linux beyond Ubuntu." This time we share a tour of SolusOSa distro with GNOME 2.x flavor. |
History
SolusOS is a distribution created by the initial creator of LMDE, Ikey Doherty, based on Debian Squeeze, but with very significant differences.
It comes with a GNOME desktop environment "at 2.x", accompanied by a good selection of programs that come by default, programs intended for daily tasks, applications updated from Debian backports and the project's own repositories, a complete set of multimedia plugins, a custom Gnome menu and a very intuitive graphical installer.
Future versions, as seen in the successive alphas that they are releasing, leave GNOME 2.x aside to give entry to a graphical interface based on GNOME 3, although establishing a difference between it and version 2.x is almost impossible. Let's say it's some kind of GNOME 3 that acts like GNOME 2.x.
A couple of weeks ago, Ikey Doherty announced the release of the fifth and final ALPHA of SolusOS version 2 which is currently in development.

I have not used it, although I assume that it is a very good alternative to Ubuntu. Very good article.
What bothers me is that look of the menu so windows xp…. I do not like.
haha SolusOS rox XD
Sometimes I wonder if they have tried "Debian" ...
Just a few "drivers" and a touch of the desktop are introduced, and any Debian-based distribution quickly reaches unusual acceptance and fame.
That does not mean that comfort is not a plus and seen from the perspective of the "novice" is wonderful and I understand it, but the reality is that even Windows are installed drivers ...
Greetings.
I really don't like the genome 3 desktop, so much so that I went from LMDE to crunchbang, I hope to try this distribution
It looks quite friendly the truth reminded me a lot of linux mint.
Gnome is fine, but years ago I gave up Ubuntu for that reason (among others).
I think it can be a good alternative to Ubuntu and Linux Mint, but at the moment and with a single person in charge of its development, I see it difficult.
Trust is an important factor and at the moment SolusOS does not offer me any.
But it is early and you have to give time, good luck and success.
Greetings.
Rosa and Mandriva are the same dog with a different collar.
The only advantage over Mandriva is that they are not French, but otherwise the same.
I, more than happy with the 1.1 ..
Eagerly awaiting the 2 ..
LDD videos are missed !!
There are people who miss them and others who wrote saying they were too long ...
Anyway ... it's easier that way. : S
Otherwise we would need help with editing and such (which takes a long time).
Hug! Paul.
What a pity .. so we would have more followers of this distro that promises a lot ..
And for you, what opinion does this distro deserve .. ??
Another video that I was waiting for was that of Rosa Linux, since this one if I cannot test it, as my parents' PC has few resources.
Greetings ..
The fifth alpha is out, it must be the sixth before the beta
