LIBRECON 2018: analysis of what happened at the event

LIBRECON: image of the attendees

The organizers ASOLIF and the Association of Companies of Free Technologies and Open Knowledge of Esukadi have made a very positive balance of the event LIBRECON powered by CEBIT in this 2018 edition, which took place in the city of Bilbao (Spain). More than 1200 attendees have come to it from around the world, being the most international conference in recent years and leaving an economic benefit of more than half a million euros in the host city in the days of November that it has remained open.

The event, as we already said when we announced the availability of the tickets and the dates of the event, is one of the references in southern Europe on dissemination of open technologies, emphasizing both the industrial sector, finance and public administrations. Sectors so important to raise awareness about the support of this type of open-source technologies. And for this, what better than these conferences with 500 meetings of leading professionals in the sector, 70 speakers, 40 exhibitions and 600 leading companies in the world of open technologies.

Among those present are prominent companies such as Red Hat, IBM, Hitachi, Mozilla, and a long etc., in addition to such renowned people in the world of free software as Richard Stallman, who had his moment to give a talk at the event. We can also highlight entrepreneurs from the Hispano-German Circle, Open Forum Europe, CEBIT, OSADL, CNLL, ESOP, Aquinetic, Orange, etc. A whole paradise where all these people have shaken hands, clamoring for more free and open technologies ...

Finally, add that the prizes have also been given as usual in LIBRECON, I mean the well-known Librecon Awards that are given in different categories to the participants. This year, Red Hat won the Open Enterprise Award with the Most Global Impact. The Best International Speaker Award went to Carsten Emde from OSADL. GFI (Doñana) has also obtained the Award for the best digital transformation success story. Nestor Salceda from Sysgdig has been awarded with the one for the best technical talk at Librecon and the Provincial Deputation of Bizkaia has won the award for public administrations.

This news is not an analysis of what has happened in the librecon, but is a copy of the press release released by the organization. A shame
