Liferea: RSS reader that synchronizes with Google Reader

liferea (short for Linux Feed Reader or Linux Feed Reader) is a desktop application that allows us to keep up to date with the news of our favorite sites through RSS, RDF y Atom, allowing import and export subscription lists in format OPML.

Liferea is written in gtk so it is 100% compatible with Desktop Environments that use these librariesgnomes, Xfce). It is very easy to use and in its version 1.6.5 brings us many options. The most interesting for me is to be able to synchronize it with Google Reader, so I don't have to open a browser just to see my RSS favorites.

If like me, you use Google Reader and you want to manage it from Liferea, you can add it by following these simple steps.

  1. In the left pane select a folder.
  2. Right click on it » New »New Source.
  3. In the window that opens you choose Google Reader.
  4. You put your email from gmail and your password.
  5. Reboots liferea.

That should be more than enough 😀

It's a great app that I just discovered, thanks to your post. unfortunately, it is a very unstable application, at least with Ubuntu 10.10 I have not managed to work well!

It is rare that in that version of Ubuntu there are problems, but it may be because in the Liferea blog the author commented something about it. Tell me which version is the one you have installed ..

Unlike the previous colleagues, it worked perfectly for me! although I do not use Ubuntu, but Linux Mint 13 and the truth is that it runs wonderfully.
