Linux did not work in the last Play 3 ... Ha!

On April 1, with the release of the latest firmware (3.21), Sony removed one of the most original features of the Play 3, which differentiated it from the rest of the consoles: its option to install an alternate operating system, like Linux. Today, just 7 days later a hacker claims to have re-enabled this possibility.

His name is George "Geohot" Hotz and he says that as well as promised, implemented a workaround that will allow users to enjoy the latest firmware by keeping the option to "Install another OS". The only problem is that if you already installed firmware 3.21, then this trick is not going to work.

Hotz writes on his page:

“This can be installed without having to open the PS3, just by restoring a file (the PS3 update file), but it will only work using version 3.15 or earlier. This custom firmware may also work on the slim model. "

Here is a video in which Hotz shows that he hacked the PS3 and was able to enable the option as he claims.

Sony argued the removal of the ability to install another OS as a "security-related" decision for the PS3.

Apparently, Hotz hasn't released its custom firmware yet. So it may be a fake, but dear fans ... have faith. If not, look at the Wikipedia page of this kid to see all the times the iPhone and Play have been hacked. They can also see su Blog to follow their recommendations closely.

When will be the day that we have a game console based entirely on Linux and that does not force us to install this or that software, like Sony? Ah ... well ...

It is not only the headache of Apple, now also of Sony hehehe, and yes, I remember that I had commented via Twitter that I did not want to resort to Custom Firmwares, but that if they wanted to play at Sony that way, they would have to ...
