Mandriva Linux management passes to the community

There has been no solution to financial problem de Mandriva, and project control To return to to community, as published by the CEO of the firm, Jean-Manuel Croset, on the official Mandriva blog.

After several months surrounded by uncertainty, Mandriva is clarifying its future and it has been confirmed that the management of the popular Linux distro will be the responsibility of the community.

Jean-Manuel Croset Director of Operations of Mandriva has published a post in which he explains that a working group of community representatives will be created to continue with the direction of the project.

The leader has also ensured that Mandriva SA will continue to have a voice in the community, but has specified that the working group that is being created will be in charge of defining the structures, processes and organization in this new stage independently.

Rumors about the sale of the company due to a critical financial situation began to appear in the summer of 2010, and from that moment on, the news about the bad times the French company was going through was incessant. Already in 2012 there was talk of an attempt to re-float the ship with external capital, but all came to nothing when an important sector of the shareholders opposed the operation.

With this new direction for Mandriva Linux, Croset has indicated that he hopes the project can continue with its work even in the event that his company ends up disengaging from it.

It is worth remembering that on September 18, 2010, a group of former Mandriva employees with the support of community members, announced that they had created a Fork of Mandriva Linux, called Mageia. This action came in response to news that most of the employees working on the Mandriva distribution had been laid off when Edge-IT (a Mandriva affiliate) had been wound up. The group explained that they "did not want to be dependent on either economic fluctuations or strategic movements without explanation from the company.

So, do you prefer Mandriva or Mageia?
