From time to time, we tend to put aside the news, guides and tutorials on Linux Distributions and Free and Open Applications, to approach other diverse information related to the world of free software and open source. And in many of those cases, we tend to talk about systems, platforms and social networks in this sphere. Being, a good example of this, the last ones that we addressed more than a year ago, called Network LinuxClick and Minds.
Therefore, today we have decided to explore and introduce another great open source and decentralized Social Networking application and platform called "Manyverse". Being a specific difference between the aforementioned and the latter, that one of the first mentioned (LinuxClick Network) is focused mainly on users who are passionate about Free Software and Open Source, and technology in general. While, the one that we will explore today is more focused on people from any field, who seek more freedom, security, privacy and anonymity when using it.
But, before reading this post about this interesting and still developing Social Network called "Manyverse", we recommend the previous related post:
Manyverse: A decentralized Social Network for everyone
What is Manyverse?
According to his Official website, manyverse It is briefly and precisely described as follows:
A social network without bad things, based on the SSB peer-to-peer protocol. It is free and open source, and is available for desktop and mobile devices.
However, the following 3 relevant data can be pointed out about it:
- It is a decentralized social network: Which makes a big difference compared to Consequently, most of the current social networks are not run by a company (public or private) that can exercise power or control over communications between users. And as for the Manyverse developers can control the source code to keep improving and updating the app, but without access to user data. Therefore, each user has complete ownership and responsibility for their shared data.
- Its main objective is to offer a good example and the way forward: to make social networks independent of Internet connectivity. And precisely, andIt is this important characteristic that makes it a highly functional product for those disconnected populations (regions/places) that abound in many parts of the world, and have people who seek to be able to stay connected without a permanent Internet connection.
- Seeks to be a social network of neutral public utility for people of all kinds: To do this, look for the neutrality of it by making the project non-commercial, so that the pursuit of profit never interferes with communications between its users, even in the long term. And also, through the safe possibility that software developers have no access or responsibility for user content, in order to create an unbiased environment.
Manyverse uses the Secure Scuttlebutt protocol, also known as SSB. This protocol is somewhat like HTTP or RSS, in that it describes how different applications can communicate with each other over the Internet or other network channels such as Bluetooth. What is manyverse?
Use on Linux
Currently, Manyverse goes for the latest stable version 0.2304.3 beta, so it is clearly noticeable that it is an open project in full development. But, after downloading its installer for Linux in .deb format and running on our usual Respin MiracleOS based on MX LinuxThese are some screenshots that we share for your knowledge and enjoyment:

In summary, "Manyverse" an interesting alternative in full development to private, closed and commercial Social Networks, similar to Twitter and Facebook. Therefore, without a doubt, we hope that this free, open and decentralized project continues to grow and improve in favor of all citizens of the world, in general. And for this reason, we invite you to download it, try it and tell us your experience about it, via comments for the benefit of our entire Community.
