MDM is the Project Session Manager MATE and is used in Linux Mint for some versions already. He was born as a fork of GDM2, but it has been improving with time and the fact of having support for themes in HTML5 is a good example of this.
At Linux Mint blog they tell us a little about the subject, and even show us an example of what it looks like MDM using HTML5 y web kit:
Clem clarifies that this example was not created by designers, but by developers, so it can be improved a lot, but emphasizes that interesting things can be achieved, such as making use of Flash, JQuery and in this way add effects, or even be able to play on what the screen is locked.
If you are a user of Linux Mint and you want to test your own themes, you just have to follow the following steps:
- Install the latest MDM development package on http://build.linuxmint.com/automate/www/instances/linuxmint/ubuntu/pool/main/m/mdm/
- Open a terminal and remove the Mint settings by typing this (without the quotes): "rm-f / etc / linuxmint / adjustments / 15-mdm.overwrite"
- Restart your computer
Then:
- Start the MDM configuration tool by clicking Menu »Administration» Login window (or in a terminal with «sudo mdmsetup»)
- In the "local" tab, set the "style" to "HTML".
- Make a copy of / usr / share / mdm / html-themes / mdm and modify it to create your own theme.
- Put the theme in / usr / share / mdm / html-themeso or drop a tar.gz file with the theme in the configuration dialog for installation
To test the theme easily, you can use the emulator:
- Open a terminal and type "mdm-emulator theme"
- Click on "Open" and select the file index.html
- Click "Add dummies" to add random users and sessions to the topic
This version of MDM will be available in Linux Mint 15. More information in the Linux Mint blog.
My jaw drops at the possibilities HTML5 offers. I know very little about programming, but I think it's the first time I've heard of a language that is so versatile and flexible. Hopefully its implementation does not stop.
Firefox will have your apps in html5
Yes, and it has been one of the characteristics most applauded by those who have tried it.
It seems very interesting, the truth is that Html 5 is very very powerful, but the truth is that I would not like anything that when I turned on my PC it found me something in flash, I don't know, I don't like flash too much, I prefer JQuery (it's just a personal opinion )
By the way, although this does not have too much to do with the thread ... Does anyone already know exactly the release date of debian 7 Wheeze stable ?.
A greeting.
The final moments are eternal: countdown from 732 bugs.

Look here: When is Debian 7 for? Stop right now!

For Squeeze there were 2 betas and 2 release candidates, Wheezy already has 4 betas and a release candidate so I suppose that in the first weeks of April it would have to come out, although with Debian you never know for sure.
A distro that the truth has advanced and continues to do so at a rapid pace ..
Aside from this distro, has any other distro chosen to make use of HTML5 for their login sessions?
Thanks for the info elav,
Regards!
yes we get technical Windows 8 uses all HTML5 technologies for its applications xD
has a lot of potential O__O
an excellent distro to start (from my point of view) however for those of us who have already been swimming around here for a while I feel that mint falls short (at least for me) ...
I think the HTML% thing is excellent, but it seems like a throwback to use flash.
According to Elendilnarsil, and best of all, the HTML5 boom still leaves much room for much more.
Which in fact, Elav: it would be great if you could make an entry on his story. 🙂 Greetings.
From the history of HTML5?
Well, in fact; more than anything I was referring to HTML in general. 😀
Oh! Well, yes, it would not be bad to talk a little about that .. But I would have to document myself ..
