Many of you know MEGA, the site where we can upload and download our files and that until now, we could only manage correctly through a browser extension.
Well, it is now available to download and use a native client to GNU / Linux written in Qt called MEGAsync, and that after trying it I must say, it works perfectly. Let's see how to configure it.
Configure MEGA client
The first thing to do is install it as is logical.
If you are an Ubuntu, Debian and OpenSUSE user, you can get the binaries from the following link:
If you are an ArchLinux user, then we simply install it through AUR:
$ yaourt -S megasync nautilus-megasync
The second package for ArchLinux is if we use Nautilus, Because with Dolphin it works perfectly. Once installed we execute it and it should come out as follows:
If we have a MEGA account then we go to the next step, otherwise we mark the option to create an account. Later we will have the following option:
This allows us to save all our files or simply choose a specific folder in the purest Dropbox style. If you use the free account (which only offers us 50GB), you may have to choose the second option 😉
Once these options are configured, because MEGAsync will notify us that it is ready and we can
Now we just have to drag any file to the folder that we specify for MEGA and the client does its job.
I must also say that MEGAsync it is quite configurable as we can see in the settings:
As you can see in the first screenshot, it specifies the type of account we are using and the space consumed in it, as well as the option to show or not notifications and choose the language of the application.
Already in the synchronization option we can establish in which folder (or folders) we want to deposit our MEGA files, or we can go to the method of Activate full synchronization. And finally, we have other options such as configuring our proxy server, excluding files, or limiting our bandwidth.
So we can manage our files without any problem and natively. Enjoy!
Seen Webupd8
what is it written on? In windows the client is quite "bad", let me explain, it works quite well when it is in the background, but in the foreground it usually starts in w8.1
Maybe I will install it in my eOS to see what happens ...
offtopic: How beautiful is the theme, what is it?
Interesting, although I am not one of uploading many files to the cloud.
By the way, if it is written in Qt, why do you have to install the nautilus dependency?
The Nautilus thing is for whoever uses GNOME.
Qt is not a programming language per se. C ++, for example, is. Just sayin '.
True to be ..
Ahh thanks.
It is that it was strange to me that at this time installing a package and having a dependency on nautilus is crazy.
Your question is rare, if the full article is read, the question is answered alone and in the first lines and why say the title xD
as I mention the above man, it said it because of the dependencies, I installed it and it didn't ask me for QT, but I already noticed why, because I had installed qupzilla and vlc, and they had already installed everything
Are good news…. thanks for letting us know….
PS Would you only allow one account? I have two accounts with different emails ... taking advantage of the 50 - 50
I don't think that for now it supports multiple accounts ... it would be a matter of testing.
Interesting post, by the way when will they publish the best Linux desktop of August 2014?
If you can with multiple accounts, not directly from MegaSync but with a script that changes the Path of the Home user profile.
This is a basic example of how it would work, I have it working with 3 accounts, mega, dropbox and copy which I have linked. Here I only show in mega but it is the same for each service to run.

: )
AHh but what good news !!! I was already tired of using megatools
I've been testing it since yesterday and everything is great.
It does not load the settings in Elementary OS Luna, has someone already installed it?
I do not load the settings in eOS either
It is also available in AUR by a very nice person: p
https://aur.archlinux.org/pkgbase/megasync/
Hahaha, but what a nice person that is .. thanks to the nice guy I installed MEGASync in my Arch .. THANK YOU MAJO !!! XDD
Hahahaha, I hadn't gotten the joke until I saw the maintainer's name. xD
By the way:
==> Validando el archivo fuente con md5sums...
megasync_1.0.29_i386.deb ... FALLÓ
==> ERROR: ¡Uno o más archivos no pasaron la verificación de integridad!
==> ERROR: Makepkg no ha podido compilar megasync.
The correct checksum for 32 bits is this: 4fef9db2128c15cf4dbea9b6bb5e579f
Edit: I have put this same comment in AUR.
Well, this person is nice, thanks to him I was also able to install megasync in Antergos 🙂
Anteriorgos == ArchLinux
Excellent was waiting for you. A question.
Will deleting a file that is in the folder used by MEGASync also delete the one in mega?
As soon as I have it synchronized I try and let you know, but if it is Dropbox style it should work in theory the same
regards
Yes, it works like Dropbox, I just loaded a couple of Python courses with a simple
$ cp -R source_folder / home / user / destination_folder
And it started to rise
I don't have a screenshot but it works
And in the event that the files in that folder are deleted, will they also be deleted in mega?
I installed it last night and tried some folders. Works great 😀
I just tried it and it is excellent, I have to wait for the synchronization, but everything worked perfectly, as good BOFH I did not install the nautilus package and I manage it from ranger

And for a change, I had to do the Ebuild for Gentoo, available exclusively on my overlay 😀

This is great news !!! This client is my right hand man!
I just adapted the PKGBUILD for KaOS and uploaded it to KCP (KaOS Community Packages)
https://github.com/KaOS-Community-Packages/megasync
To install it on KaOS, from a terminal:
kcp -i megasync
Running 😉 http://wstaw.org/m/2014/09/03/megasync.jpg
Thanks to elav for letting me know and to Son Link for the PKGBUILD
By the way, in KaOS the qtchoooser package is not necessary so I have removed it from the PKGBUILD
regards
Testing in Archlinux + Openbox and everything works wonderfully: D, first time I try some synchronization with the cloud to see how it works, but for the moment everything is great: 3
And it's not being paranoid, but with privacy as MEGA handles it, is it like owncloud ??
I have a question and I don't know if it is still too early to ask .. but if I had several computers with the same account, all the computers would be synchronized .. something like bsync?
From the title and the first paragraph it gives me the impression that you did not know that MEGAsync already existed in versions for Android and iOS since last year, for Windows since January and for Mac since the previous month. The only thing missing was, as always, Linux.
It's nice to note that at least no features were left in the way, it's exactly the same as the Windows client. I'd say it works even better, but I haven't used the Windows version for a long time and I don't know how much they've improved it since.
Due to the lateness of your answer (taking into account that you already made another comment previously and did not mention any of this) it gives me the impression that you did not know him either, you documented yourself a little and now you act as if you had known him all your life .. XDD
Well, of course I didn't know him. Is that a crime? Go trolling Trello 😛
I figured you'd answer that, smartass. Actually the first time I entered I had not paid attention to the post, I skipped directly to the comments. 😛

And yes, it is a crime, the SWAT is going to drag you out of your house for you. xD
I just tried it and it's great.
I did not like the web interface very much, since when uploading several small files, it kind of slowed the matter down.
Then I tried megatools, but the developer explained why he had to leave the tool out of the game.
Now with this, for now I'm happy. I'm already uploading my arduino collection for testing.
ps: a screenshot here: http://i.imgur.com/uyebBv3.png
On the download page it only gives me the option to download it for Windows or Mac, apart from for the different mobile operating systems and browsers, but I cannot find the packages for linux, in my case openSUSE that I have not seen the program in the repos
I answer to myself, for the link to work you have to have the browser extension disabled, at least in my case, with firefox.
How to install it in PCLINUXOS?
How with the memory consumption when being in the background? Dropbox started to take up a lot of ram since it was switched to Qt, so if it takes up little ... then I'll switch.
Hello, I hope I am not being naive or worse, but I have gone to the MEGA page and I do not see the download link for linux, only for windwos and mac, can someone put the specific link please or can you tell me that is what I am doing wrong, note I have the plugin installed in chromium and in firefox. . . first of all, Thanks
As I mentioned above, the same thing happened to me, when deactivating the mega plugin in the browser, the links for linux already appeared
working perfectly on wheezy. It is also fine to be able to upload files to the cloud without them being from a synchronized folder. the owncloud client I think it doesn't.
sorry for the double post, but I have noticed that at least in debian, when installing the package it adds the mega repository itself. it's a detail : )
Something will come out for the console sometime or it is impossible….
Thank you
Nothing is impossible ,,
I tried it on my Debian Jessie and it works great. Good hit from Kim Dotcom.
And beware: yesterday has announced it with great drums and cymbals (after the 4 days that MuyLinux have spread the word).
What good news they gave me, I have been waiting for the Megasync for a long time, now I no longer have headaches to make it work.
By the way, it goes perfect without any problem. Cheers
I use Elementary OS Luna and as they said above, the "settings" do not work ... and the "casca" hours at all.
In Elementary it does NOT work. We will wait for them to improve it.
Salu2
I used MEGAsync in Windows 8 from a laptop and on a Windows 7 PC. The files in the chosen folder were perfectly synchronized.
Now from Debian I have installed the application and I continue accessing the content of the chosen folder of the other two computers.
And with 50GB it comes to me for now! Heh heh heh ...
Good article! Personally, I've been waiting for the Google Drive client for this system for about a year (since I installed Lubuntu on my netbook and discovered this wonder that is Linux). And just to say that it gives a lot of pain that Mega has already produced such an efficient client while Google does not show signs of life or shows of interest in the subject. Is it that Linux users are second-rate? I don't know the others but I feel helpless. I'll stick with Mega and forget about Google. Bad Google. Google CACA 🙁
Hello dear! I tell you that the installation of megasync in Chakra Euler has been seriously difficult for me; when downloading it from AUR and trying to compile, it tells me to install qtchooser and sqlite, but I can't find them in the repositories ... 🙁
I searched, I searched, I searched and I ended up giving up, fucking mother.
If you could assist me in this regard, I will thank you.
Happy life.
I respond to my own comment so you don't keep asking yourself "what is this guy talking about?"….
As a good teacher and therapist, a year ago I stopped hacking "windows" to enter the linux universe, and with a whole year of experience in ubuntu I switched to chakra linux. I say the teacher and therapist because that is what I know how to do; As for computing, I belong to that elite of 95% of humans whose adrenaline shoots up at the inexplicable sorcery that makes the wireless mouse work.
I tell you that I found the happy qtchooser and sqlite in AUR, but they did not help me much because Chakra Euler has sqlite3 and creates conflict, since qtchoooser although I found it, downloaded and installed it, I could not make it work: makepkg does not recognize it as "usable" or he just doesn't accept it.
So I decided to edit the megasync pkgbuild before compiling with makepkg: I changed sqlite to sqlite3 and deleted qtchooser from the dependencies list ... and ta: megasync running for more than 40 hours without pause or conflicts.
I share because I consider it a solution; maybe I discovered warm water….
Greetings to all and thanks for being there.
thanks for the input
