Microsoft Bing trying to boycott OpenOffice? Nahhhh….

Microsoft Bing has many bugs, but this seems to be one of the most outrageous. If you try search for OpenOffice, or worse, OpenOffice.org, you will see that it will not show you the official OpenOffice.org page but a series of random pages linked to that search, such as OpenOffice.com and other sites that are not directly linked to the project.

Furthermore, the google search results They speak volumes: the official OpenOffice.org page appears first. The "fingering" of the Bing results is so rude, they have "moved" what should have been the first result… to the fifth page! So if you like Bing, you will probably never find the official OpenOffice.org site.

The reason for this gross error is still not clear: is Microsoft trying to boycott OpenOffice, directing OpenOffice fans to the wrong places to discourage them from installing OpenOffice? Is this simply a bug in the search algorithms? from Bing? Only Microsoft can answer. For now, just silence from you.

Moral: regardless of the reasons for this error, my recommendation is that you do NOT use Bing. One of two: or it is a terrible search engine or it is part of Microsoft's strategy to discourage the use of alternative programs, especially Windows and Office, which are two of its main sales pillars, and, especially if its contenders are of better quality and, worse for bad, they are free, open source and free. Maybe the two things happen at the same time.

I thought it wise to warn you because you saw what Microsoft is like: Bing is now the default search engine in Internet Explorer and while everything else makes it easy, changing your home page can be tricky for the novice user. Firefox y Google ChromeInstead, they allow you to change your home page with just one click.
