The developer of NeptuneLinux, a distribution based on Debian, has announced the immediate availability of Neptune Linux 5.5, a new update that brings with it the latest in free software.

Barely arriving one month after Neptune 5.4 release which introduced a new dark theme and updated various components, Neptune 5.5 updates the Linux Kernel to version 4.17.8, as well as adding Mesa 18.1.6, AMDGPU DDX 18.0.1, Nouveau DDX 1.0.15 and ATI / Radeon DDX 18.0.1.

Latest Intel microcode available in Neptune Linux 5.5

The Neptune Linux 5.5 release brings with it the latest firmware update for Intel microcode which mitigates some of the latest vulnerabilities like CVE-2018-3639 and CVE-2018-3640.

In this compilation LibreOffice 6.1 office suite is added, the Chromium 68 web browser with a redesigned media player and improved HTML5 video and audio playback, plus the addition of FFMpeg 3.2.12.

Among other important changes, Neptune 5.5 comes with an updated KDE Plasma based graphical environment in the sixth update of the KDE Plasma 5.12 series, KDE Plasma 5.12.6, plus KDE Applications 18.08.0.

All users who use Neptune 5 on their computers can update to version 5.5 to get all the news, to do so you only need to use the Plasma Discover package manager or the command line.
