We already know many audio players in GNU / Linux, But muchos It is not enough, we want more and today I bring you another alternative that more than one may like.
Is nulloy, a minimalist and multiplatform audio player (written in Qt) that offers us just what we need, the possibility of listening to our audio files.
Nulloy appearance
By default the "skin" of nulloy It is in the Metro style, but in the application preferences (we access by right clicking on the window) we have 2 more options, that is, it would be one for Metro, another Native according to our configuration, and another similar to OS X.
El skin Native which adapts to the configuration of our default interface:
And skin Silver It is very similar to how OS X looks.
Otherwise there is not much else. The buttons to control our songs and choose some options for our playlist (random or repeat). Note the progress bar in the wave style (wave).
Options
As I mentioned at the beginning, it is a minimalist application not only in its appearance, but in its options, which although it does not have many, at least it has the necessary ones. The only bad thing I have seen so far is that it is only available in English.
As you can see on this first screen, we have the following options:
- Choose the default theme (skin).
- Always show the icon in the system tray.
- When closing hide in the systray.
- Restore playlist on restart.
- Show the log in case of error.
- Check for updates automatically.
Then we have the options to configure the way the information is displayed in the player and finally, the keyboard shortcuts. Did you want something else? Well, there is nothing else.
To add songs or folders we must do it from the right click on the playlist area. We can remove the songs from the list or move them to the trash, in addition, it allows us to open the directory where our file is located. Something interesting is that it also gives us the option to load "the next file" that exists in the directory where the current song is.
Installation
In the case of ArchLinux we can install from AUR:
$ yaourt -S nulloy
In the case of Ubuntu 14.04 (see other versions and Debian 7):
wget -q http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/sergey-vlasov:/Nulloy/xUbuntu_14.04/Release.key -O- | sudo apt-key add - sudo add-apt-repository 'deb http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/sergey-vlasov:/Nulloy/xUbuntu_14.04/ / #Nulloy' sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nulloy nulloy-gstreamer nulloy-taglib # Install extra GStreamer plugins for more audio formats: sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins- {good, bad, ugly}
Fedora 20 (see other versions) ::
su - cd /etc/yum.repos.d/ wget http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/sergey-vlasov:/Nulloy/Fedora_20/home:sergey-vlasov:Nulloy.repo yum install nulloy nulloy -gstreamer nulloy-taglib # Install extra GStreamer plugins for more audio formats: yum install gstreamer {-ffmpeg, -plugins- {good, bad, ugly}}
and that's it. Hope you enjoy it 😉
For KaOS I have uploaded it to KCP https://github.com/KaOS-Community-Packages/nulloy
Having kcp installed in KaOS we simply pull it from the terminal
kcp -i nulloy
Right, I was thinking of putting it in the article and it passed me 🙁
By the way, the PKGBUILD that I have uploaded to KCP I have configured to make use of the new gstreamer 1.0 when compiling and not the old 0.10
Whoever installs it on KaOS already knows, Nulloy will work with gstreamer 1.0 😉
Sorry, gstreamer 1 is already on 1.2.4, checking from octopi I just saw it.
mm .. I did not understand xD well but it seems like a good audio player ...
With the greatness and simplicity of internationalization in Qt, since it should at least have support to change the language, anyone can make a ts in Spanish, the interface is very simple.
[offtopic] elav: which window decorator is that?
It's an imitation of what's to come in Plasma Next. You can download it from here: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Descartes+Breeze?content=165578
In Kaos we have it in Kpc
if they have kcp installed it is a piece of cake, but nothing to install it with
sudo pacman -S kcp
and then
kcp -i nulloy
eye if they appear to edit pkgbuild if they go ahead if not instead and / n give it and ready it will begin to install this for Kaos with kcp.
It's written in C ++, the last time I looked at Qt it was a framework for that language not a language by itself;).
Yes, we know, what happens is that when we refer to an application we always say: It is written in GTK or written in Qt .. and I think everyone understands us 😀
the credit belongs to our comrade yoyo who uploaded it to Kcp
Approve …
It is possible that they do not hear anything when starting, if they are in KDE they must open Kmix and look for the entry of nully, the volume will appear at zero, they should only turn it up ... one thing that has caught my attention is that every time you start the volume at zero ...
How strange, it does not happen to me ...
Silly question, does it have an equalizer?
Silly answer What do you think? XDD
Well, it looks like no, that's why I ask xDD
xDDD so good answer
I remember using it, I really liked the skin metro and the default, but I hated how it crashed every 2 × 3 ^ 10, it is still good to know more alternatives.
Thanks elav for the post.
Well, you should try it again, I think it's much more stable 😀
Well believe me, I just did it and still, it keeps crashing me, but suppose that almost nobody fails like that, it must be my computer and my music collection, somewhat overloaded with covers, lyrics, crazy metadata and weird formats . Maybe in KaOS it works better for me, I'll leave the data later. Again, thanks for the post elav.
You're welcome, thanks to you for stopping by and commenting.
Many thanks! I was just looking for a simple program to listen to music
I liked it, I will finally retire vlc as an audio player = D
A simple but more complete player (equalizer, playlists) is DeadBeef, very good: http://deadbeef.sourceforge.net/
Do you know if it will be available in the chakra ccr? or that someone is encouraged to upload it for fa.
You can use the PKGBUILD of KaOS for Chakra, in case it fails it is only to adapt it
https://github.com/KaOS-Community-Packages/nulloy
Well, I installed it and it is still green ... although it looks pretty good. I'm sticking with QMMP for now. Another thing I saw, is that it has no filters in the QFileDialog when you add a directory, and it adds all the files that are in the directory to the playlist widget. But like I said, it's still green, and it promises!
Boyce avenue? Despite the millions of reproductions, almost no one ever refers to them and I thought I was the only one who listened to them haha.
If the app is written in QT and I use MATE as an environment (which I understand is GTK), will I see the app as windows 95? Nonsense, I better install it and check it
Hahaha, I'm not a fan of them but there are songs that I like (almost none of them) 😀
Hello, I have seen the player and I have loved it and more than it fits perfectly with my current configuration, without thinking twice I decided to install it, but after installing it by the packages that I have downloaded from here http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/sergey-vlasov:/Nulloy/Debian_7.0/amd64/ and trying to reproduce something I get the following error message: «Error: GStreamer installation is missing a plugin.»… ..I am using Ubuntu 14.04, I have followed the steps for this distribution but when I put the first code in the console I get another error message "gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found" ..... hope someone can help me
Hi there. There have been some changes about Nulloy, so the links in the post are broken:
1. SourceForge hosting in no more in use, visit http://github.com/nulloy/nulloy/releases
2. download.opensuse.org repositories were renamed, check the new ones at http://nulloy.com/download/
