Reinstalling your favorite applications and importing the settings of those applications into your recent Ubuntu installation can become a tedious job. No more thanks to the "OneConf" initiative which, although it has not yet reached a final version, is now available for you to try. |
Designed by Ubuntu developers to keep a list of installed programs and their settings, OneConf will sync this information with Ubuntu One, Canonical's cloud storage service. Then, with a simple click, OneConf can reinstall and restore all your applications and settings. As if nothing had happened…
There is even speculation that OneConf will be incorporated into the new Ubuntu installer, allowing users to restore their applications and settings directly from there.
The brave can give OneConf a try
At the moment it is not recommended to test it as it is still in the development phase. However, those brave who still want to do it, can try it by following the detailed instructions in the project wiki.
This is good but it leaves me feeling that every 6 months I have to reinstall Ubuntu to get the latest.

No. The point is that many people, like me, prefer to install everything from scratch every time there is a new version available. Sure you can "update", but hey…. they are customs. 🙂
Big hug! Paul.
Or for people who want to have the same applications on two different PCs 😉
HaD!
