Pardus: endangered distro

Just one year after its launch PARDUS 2011 has been discontinued, this implies that there will no longer be updates for Pardus 2011, 2011.1 and 2011.2.

This was communicated on the mailing list by a developer of Pardus (Semen Cirit) from the institute TUBITAK, which is where Pardus was developed.

We have months of rumors and official abandonment. The different Pardus communities around the world complain that no official information is given and the only one we have is of "leaks" from some developers who are "pulling the blanket" on the mailing lists.

We already know for sure that there will be no more updates for the 2011.x branch of Pardus, but they have not yet said anything about whether after the long (apparently) restructuring in TUBITAK we will have a Pardus 2012, there are even those who He was talking about this version (2011) could become the Corporate version and abandon the end-user version, that is, the one we all have.

Apparently all this uproar has been political decisions on the part of the Turkish government, or by the branch of government that is in charge of the institute for technological development (TUBITAK) where Pardus was managed (this is what can be said without delving much into the subject )

There have been layoffs and layoffs of developers who appeared to be working under "very unpleasant" conditions, as noted by another developer who left Pardus, Bahadır Kandemir, in a message to Pardus. If you translate the message that I link, you will see that it is a bit disheartening. This is how things are, at least what we know from what is coming to us by the dropper.

Is there light at the end of the road?

The Pardusera community through its world forum is moving and they ask for support from all the Pardusera communities so that this does not die

There is movement, support is being sought from developers who still want to save the ship, everyone is being asked for help so that Pardus does not die and that at least one Fork can be continued.

And now what do I do, I stay in Pardus, I change distribution?

In your place, I would wait a little longer to see what news comes. In case they are not the happiest and Pardus finally disappears, my recommendation is to move to another distro, since you will stop receiving updates. : S

I use this distro and it is the simplest and most punctual of all the ones that I have tried, regrettable what happened with pardus, I installed it on my uncle's pc machine and on my laptop, the truth is it comes very complete and is perfect for a person who does not have much knowledge in linux

I do not know this distro, so my opinion does not go specifically to this one, but is more general: what is special about this distro that makes it better than other options? There are so many good distros that sometimes I feel sad that efforts are so diversified reinventing the wheel. I am not saying that the alternatives are bad, on the contrary, that is the strength of free software, but doing it over and over and over again exactly the same goes nowhere. Wouldn't it be better to join a project with similar objectives to join forces instead of dispersing them even more? The forks are good, they are part of the philosophy of the SL, but you always have to evaluate what is gained and the viability, because forks are not free, they have their cost. Perhaps this is not the case, by the way, I say again that I do not know this distro.

If it is a pity, that the end has come, since it is a great distro, for those who do not know it I invite you to visit this link. http://digitalpcpachuca.blogspot.com/2011/09/pardus-2011-gnulinux-capturas-de.html

I have it installed on my desktop PC and I was planning to do it on my lap, but on my lap I have Fedora 16 and Linux Mint.

Pardus is a very good distro and it was just gaining ground, too bad it is going to end, I also visit parduslife is a good blog and as a pardus user I also participate in that blog and in its forum.

Hopefully something can be done to rescue him.

    Greetings from Mexico.
