If you've ever wanted to take a screenshot on your Linux distribution you probably could do it with a pre-installed tool, but what if you want to create a GIF? For that we have Peek.
Peek is one of those tools for Linux that even when it is small has great functionality, with it you can create GIFs in the same way that you take a screenshot, fast and easy.
Improvements in Peek 1.4.0
Peek 1.4.0 is the first major update of this tool since the beginning of 2018. This version brings fixes to critical and stability bugs, as well as interface improvements and a new icon.
Among the changes of Peek 1.4.0 we find that the application menu is mobile to the main window, fixes for those who use block window manager, the shortcut tricks now show in the main window improved error messages.
The developer behind Peek mentioned that this is not the latest version:
Peek is very easy to use, you open the application, put the box in the part you want to capture and press the record button, when you stop the recording, a minute will pass as the .gif file is created and it will be ready to share or save it. .
If you want to download Peek 1.4.0, the source code is available on GitHub. There is also the app on Flathub, the Flatpak store.
Ubuntu users can install the application by adding the repository using the following terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa: peek-developers / stable
Finally, install and update the package:
sudo apt update && sudo apt install peek
Once it is installed you can open the application from the launcher.
