Greetings readers and friends, today I bring how to use multiple profiles in Firefox and derivatives.
Problem
The other day trying to try the new Firefox Developer Edition (While I had my Iceweasel), I ran into the following problem:
Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.
Doing some research I found out that you can't run another version of Firefox at the same time, which is logical. If I have my browser open, why not just browse in a new window? But ... What happens if we want that window to run with certain settings?
The answer is to use Multiple profiles in Firefox
Profiles in Firefox and derivatives
In Firefox and derivatives (Abrowser, Iceweasel, etc) all the settings such as: our home page, default search engine, passwords, bookmarks, etc. are stored in special folders called Profiles and they are always ready to load our preferences every time we open our browser.
Using the Profile Manager
We are going to create a new profile for our browser that will run with "another profile" (A different profile than the normal one), in my case I will create a profile for the Firefox Developer Edition
To create and delete profiles, just run the following code from the terminal (as the case may be)
/HOME/USUARIO/DESCARGAS/firefox_developer/firefox -ProfileManager
And we create the new profiles that we want.
READY!
If we want to run the browser with a specific profile:
firefox -P [Nombre_Del_Perfil]
And we can launch all the instances we want with the following command:
$ firefox -ProfileManager -new-instance
Install the ProfileSwitcher Addon and save time! I have two profiles with two Sync configured, a marvel.
mmm how interesting, it's a good idea. you organize better. Thanks for the information.
I used that a few times to run aurora from RAM to avoid updating the profile every time I ran the normal version.
What a great contribution !!
I will use it in my work that I have with my personal profile.
Thank you!!
They can go to Preferences -> General and mark the option that says: "Allow Firefox Developer Edition and Firefox to run at the same time" or "Allow Firefox Developer Edition and Firefox to run at the same time", here is an image that sample: http://imgur.com/Xvxn6vx
