Puppy 5.0 available!

Puppy Linux It is one more Linux distro. What differentiates it from others is its very small size, without implying a significant loss of functionality and features. Puppy boots into a 64MB virtual disk, and that's it, the entire system loads there. Unlike Live CD distributions that need to permanently read the CD, Puppy loads completely into our RAM memory. This means that applications "fly", open with just a click, and respond to user requests instantly.

Puppy Linux can boot from any pendrive, CDROM, ZIP disk, floppy disk, internal disk, etc. You can even use CD-R / DVD-R recorded in multisession, so that you can save all your settings on the CD / DVD without needing a hard disk.

Lucid Puppy 5.0

Lucid Puppy 5.0 It is based on the popular Puppy Linux architecture that Barry Kauler, its creator, has refined over 4 editions of Puppy. But this time Puppy was built with the binary packages from the latest Ubuntu version (Lucid Lynx), hence its name Lucid Puppy 5.0.

Due to the use of Ubuntu Lucid binary packages, the development time to produce the packages that are tested and configured for Lucid Puppy was extremely short. In fact, one of the new things in Lucid Puppy is Quickpet, which allows you to access many Linux programs through a simple click. Installation is hyper transparent and the user can run applications in no time.

Despite being very light, Lucid Puppy is not one of those distros that start in the terminal, from the beginning the user can have a traditional desktop and access the most popular applications. Desktop setup is simple and at your fingertips. Lucid Puppy comes with Abiword, Gnumeric word processor to handle spreadsheets, Geany text editor, Chromium as a browser to surf the internet, etc. Also included is a new tool for configuring internet connections, called Simple Network Setup. Lastly, Lucid Puppy includes a tool to easily install bugfixes.

New Features in Lucid Puppy 5.0

  • Substantive improvements when using the Aufs file system
  • Automatic detection and configuration of 3G and analog modems.
  • Fixed several "bugs" related to printing through SAMBA
  • Major improvements to Xorg's graphics device detection and configuration
  • Many improvements and bug fixes related to computer startup and shutdown scripts
  • Simple Network Setup (SNS), now it is very easy to configure your wired and wireless connections

mmm, the new version is very nice, but the old ati tv output board that I use does not recognize me (I tried all the ati settings that come with the program and none of them worked), instead I have an older version of linux (q does not use ubuntu) and takes it perfect. yes, to use in lcd and crt monitor this new distro is better, more beautiful graphics and more tools

I tried it and I was disappointed since the serial mice do not work, in addition to hanging.

What a pity. I'm pretty busy these days, but I hope to try it soon! Hug! Paul.
