Q4OS 5.2 "Aquarius" arrives with Debian 12 base, improvements and more

Q4OS​ is a Linux distribution based on Debian and Ubuntu.

The release of the new version of the Linux distribution, Q4OS 5.2 with the code name "Aquarius" which Arrives based on Debian 12 "Bookworm" package base and that it is presented as an LTS version (long term support) with which you will receive security patches and software updates for at least five years.

Of the most important changes of this release that stand out, in addition to the base change, it also presents the environment update to KDE Plasma 5.27.5, stability improvements and more.

For those who do not know about Q4OS, they should know that is a Linux distribution German based on open source Debian with a light interface and friendly to the novice user, offering a desktop environment called Trinity, also known as TDE Trinity Desktop Environment, similar to Windows XP and Windows 7 directly. It focuses on long-term stability, safety, speed, and reliability.

Like Linux Lite does, Q4OS also allows you to reuse those old computers, abandoned somewhere due to hardware limitations, on which Windows XP was previously running, that is, low-resource computers, on which the most modern versions of Windows no longer work.

In this new release of Q4OS 5.2 "Aquarius", It is noted that the distribution continue to respect its foundations, since it continues under the philosophy of offering an undemanding system that is stable and efficient, suitable for both production environments and personal use.

The new version as mentioned at the beginning, synced package base with Debian 12, with which some of the key features of this new version of Debian were transferred (you can check the release details in the following link).

Q4OS 5.2 "Aquarius" is an LTS version that will be supported for a minimum of five years, ensuring regular security patches and software updates. For the part of the heart of the system, we can find long-term compatible Linux 6.1 LTS, which is accompanied by the Trinity desktop environments that were updated to version 14.1 and KDE Plasma to version 5.27.5.

By default, KDE Plasma uses the theme used in Debian, but separately in the settings it offers its own theme Q4OS - Debonaire.

Another change that stands out is that Desktop Profiler now has the ability to create custom profiles that reflect a particular desktop state and set of pre-installed applications (the profiles can be used to recreate your environment after a fresh installation on a new computer).

If you have been interested in this distribution you can go to the official website of the projectin your download section you will be able to get the system image. The boot image size is 1,1 GB (x86_64).

As for the the requirements for the optimal functioning of the distribution we need at least a processor with 32-bit architecture Intel Pentium III at 500 Mhz, AMD-K6 III at 500 Mhz or a higher processor, in terms of RAM, 256 MB or more is enough and we require a space on a hard disk with at least 5 GB of storage space and a VGA resolution of 1024X768.

What about the ARM version of Q4OS?

It is worth mentioning that there are plans to bring this new version of Q4OS Aquarius to ARM devices, such as the Raspberry Pi, since the distribution is positioned as undemanding with hardware resources and offers a classic desktop design. In previous versions an image was offered for RPi, but in this new one we still have to wait a little longer for the launch of the ARM version
