Red Hat will not disappear after the purchase of IBM

Many wondered about the future of Red Hat after the comparison of this by IBM, as we have learned this past week. Some media have rumored that this could negatively affect Linux or the world of open source software in general, since the purchase could mean a change in the paradigm and philosophies that have guided Red Hat during these years, and that IBM would give an unproductive turn for the community, but none of this is true.

I already wrote it on the LinuxAdictos blog, last Sunday after hearing the news, IBM has been a company that has contributed a lot to the development of the Linux kernel, they have implemented this system in many of their large supercomputers, servers and mainframes, and also contribute with the Linux Foundation. IBM is not an enemy, and never has been, but a great ally. In fact, I don't know if you remember that it was even rumored that the 2.7 kernel would be developed by IBM itself ... And even if it has bought from one of the big open source companies, Red Hat, that won't affect anything.

It will simply be something nutritious for the blue giant, which will be able to compete directly with Google Cloud, AWS (Amazon Web Service) and Microsoft Azure, the big three that now dominate the cloud industry. Well, now IBM can be a powerful alternative to them thanks to the reinforcement that comes with Red Hat technology for the hybrid cloud. Instead, Red Hat will not disappear as such, the RHEL distribution will continue after the purchase, at least in the short term.

And if for any reason some hardware / server vendors were concerned about this acquisition for any reason, it is likely that both Canonical like SUSERed Hat's two main competitors could benefit greatly from this deal by fishing in rough waters. In addition, one of those involved in this business has said that IBM will continue to admit distributions from other providers in its products, and will not only monopolize them now with Red Hat ...

Excessive optimism in this article, all based on a mere opinion of someone wanting to hear their own voice.
It is better to say that you have to wait and see what happens.
But if IBM needs a salesperson, it can hire you.
