Rekonq 0.8 beta1 is released [Details] and next version preview

rekonq is a web browser for KDE well use libraries Qt. It happens to have potential, not long ago in Very linux they were talking precisely about him. The problem is that its development cycle, its speed to develop and improve is not as good or fast as users want.

However, the Rekonq 1 beta0.8, and this brings us the following changes:

  • AdBlock: Rules to avoid advertising and other annoying things 🙂
  • Modifications in the address bar (added "paste and go", etc).
  • Tab history now included in Restore Tabs.
  • Changes in the interface, specifically in the menu.
  • Now you can close the entire window, closing the last tab.
  • Use KParts to see the source code, this way the source code is not downloaded twice, that is, the code loaded will be displayed and the browser will not request that the code be downloaded again.
  • A simple "click" mechanism to manipulate and manage our "favorites".
  • Added option «Not to follow«, Something like anonymous browsing.
  • In the history we will now have the option of "first time visited", which will obviously tell us when was the first time we visited that site.
  • Tab messages will now use KMessageWidget.
  • Implemented "drag and drop", which means that we can drag the files to and from the browser, and depending on whether the website supports it, we can upload or download these files.
  • [Ctrl] + [Number] it will be enough for us to use our favorite shortcuts (keyboard shortcuts).

Clarify that they are not all, I have omitted one or two because personally they do not catch my attention. For example I specifically omitted some or other linked to developers.

Andrea confirms us that this version of rekonq has been tested with Qt 4.7.x, QtWebKit 2.0.x y KDE SC 4.7, so there shouldn't be any kind of incompatibility problem. Apparently the new version 2.2 de QtWebKit was released too late, so they couldn't do enough tests against this version, that's why it only claims full and absolute compatibility until QtWebKit 2.0.x.

But this is not all ... 🙂

He overtakes us that they will try to have us ready another shiny new version of Rekonq for christmas *-*

Thank you very much to the team of this wonderful browser, really thank you for your work.

Greetings and, KDE users ... give Rekonq a try, I assure you that you will like it 😉

Hello! my comment has 2 purposes. First of all congratulate you on such a brilliant blog, seriously, I really like reading you and from today you will go to my browser's Favorites, keep it up! Thanks to these initiatives, the Linux world seems more interesting every day and I try to make sure that everyone can enjoy it (at least try it: P).

The second is about Rekonq, it is true that it is a great browser but (I'm talking from my experience -eye-) it unexpectedly closes me too many times (especially when I handle more than 3 tabs). It is quite unstable in this sense, it is true that when it closes the reset button is given and in less than 2 seconds you are back on that page but it is annoying. Although on the other hand I LOVE Rekonq, because I love its interface so well integrated with KDE and it is also very light, without forgetting that it is made in Qt. I currently use Firefox as the default browser (with Oxygen KDE, which if it doesn't hurt the eyes xD).

And I look forward to the day when Rekonq reaches enough stability so that I can use it (I'm talking from my experience, maybe it suits you perfectly, in which case I'm very happy) and so I forget about all the other browsers (nah , I would leave them as secondary, I guess: P).

    Regards!

Wow ... really, I was shocked by this comment. Thank you very much for your opinion, the blog is not only mine (KZKG ^ Gaara) but it is also Ernesto Acosta's (elav), but I speak for both of you when I say: "Thank you for such an encouraging comment, thank you very much"

Rekonq at least has worked wonders for me, I would like it to have plugins so I can customize it more, but it is still a fairly small project if we compare it with Firefox, Chromium / Chrome or even Opera. He's not even going through version 1.0 yet, and he already has a long, long way to go.
Your instability problems could be due to the distro you use, what is it?

LOL!!! yes, the eyes bleed if you use Firefox in KDE without using Oxygen KDE (and the theme for Firefox + KDE) hahaha, that's why I got used to not mixing applications from different environments haha ^ _ ^.

Greetings and really, with all sincerity and great appreciation I tell you: Thank you for your visit and comment, thank you very much.

I'm not going to put you in a nutshell that I still remember the last one where Malcer, I just wanted to tell you to try Arora, as I implement something else Firefox will lose all KDE users

      1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

And you will not "stick it up" either because this site is not for that, here unlike other sites we will not tolerate insults or offenses 😉
He is a reader who has left an excellent comment, even if you are a colleague of us and the site, you must also respect the rules hahaha.

        Arora? … Mmm… I haven't tried it either, how's it?
I'll ask the question that I always ask when something is mentioned / presented to me… why should I use it?
I mean, I would like to know what new, better, novel, original has ^ _ ^

No, I have never seen Thunder upset, I think it is very difficult to fight with him, he said it because he has a deep hold on me, so he wouldn't think I was going to say something bad to him.

Regarding Arora, I have tried it, I will give you a link now by mail, it is a bit shabby but the same goes for something

          1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

If you want, leave the link here, if it is interesting then it could be useful to other readers 😉

          2.    Courage said

It has nothing to do with Rekonq among other things, if with time you make an entry about Arora, I will put you

            1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

haha ok ok, possibly I will 🙂

Wow xD what a surprise! Haha! It gave me the impression that this is a "family" blog because of the way they talk to each other and such, a very pleasant feeling of course, I like it 😀

Nah, I don't usually get upset myself xD life is too short to live angry, seriously xD. Nothing Courage, I have nothing against you, you know that man, so there is no problem.

Oh by the way, Rekonq has always been bad for me in Kubuntu, I hope that for version 11.10 (in which I suppose it will be version 0.8 or if not 0.7 again: S) everything works correctly.

Offtopic: Do you know anything about Kdenlive? a new version was announced on the project's official page for the end of July 2011 (I think 0.8.2) and nothing about it has yet appeared. In fact I'm using 0.8.1 through the PPA of the trial versions (I think it's called svn-sunab or something like that). And the new version would be very good for me to edit my Martial Arts videos (yes, in my free time practical XMAT, which are extreme martial arts, exhibition, I'm peaceful! Hahah).

Greetings to all! We read! 😉

              haha thanks ^ _ ^
elav and I have known each other for a few years now, we have been colleagues for a long time. Courage as he told you, we met him because of our blogs, and between us ... elav and I thought at that time that he (Courage) was a Spaniard with a very bad mood ... time has shown that we were not wrong at all LOL !! !!
Nah as we used to say, he is our favorite troll hahaha, he is a colleague who we have already appreciated.

mmm Kubuntu haha ... my beginnings with Linux were 3 years ago and a little more, when that was in love with Kubuntu (I clarify, KDE3.5) and today I still consider it to be GREAT, if I could I would use it without a second hesitation. When KDE made the big change to KDE4 and abandoned KDE3, I switched to Gnome… well, a few months ago I gave KDE4 (Kubuntu) a try again and its performance was disastrous, very very slow, unstable and was consuming too much hardware. However, I then tried the same KDE on ArchLinux and wonderfully I'm delighted with Arch + KDE4.
With this I want to tell you that I would not ensure that the instability that you present with Rekonq, is actually from the browser. It may well be from a library that Rekonq uses, and since the library is from Ubuntu repositories, well, there may be the problem.
If you can try a Pardus LiveCD, try Rekonq there and see if you have the same problems.

No idea about Kdenlive, you can enter their official website and there should be the download link, surely you will have to download a .tar.gz and compile / install it yourself, if you have problems for this, tell me and I will help you 🙂

Uff XMAT… you know Courage, you better be friends with Thunder or you could have a bad time 0_0… LOL !!!!

Greetings friend haha, a pleasure to read your comments 🙂

I don't know about Kdenlive because I don't remember when I skipped the update, I imagine that over time they will pass it to the normal Ubuntu repositories and it will skip the update like any other.

The familiar thing is that I met KZKG ^ Gaara and elavdeveloper in a flame that came from where Malcer, went to where elavdeveloper and I wrote an article about the flame hehe that's how everything happened.

Listen to me and try Arora to see what you think
Anyway, you should stop by more often, either of them are helpful people.

Some time ago I read that Rekonq was a little green but I see that it is maturing, I think I am too used to Firefox, even in KDE and that did not make me change

    I:
This sounds to me Picajoso by MuyLinux
    Extreme vigilance
    KZKG ^ Gaara: no idea
    I don't go to muylinux because I don't like that c ...

HAHA I've seen you saying that for a long time and it turns out that now you link to MuyUbuntu HAHAHA

    1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

JAJAJAJA !!!!!, MuyLinux luckily or unfortunately, it is a reference site for many of the community (that's why I link it), either because of the flamewars that take place there, or because they do publish many new articles (of done I read several).

It happens that X things happened with me, that's why my opinion is not positive about how the site is currently.

        Well, we are two…

We are two now. I've tried everything but I always end up using Firefox 😀

Anyway, everything that is Qt does not suit you too much ...

Ffox is great, and each new version reduces the differences in agility with Chrome, especially when we have many tabs loaded, but if you are interested in a native QT browser, I recommend that you take a look at Qupzilla; It is still a bit green and for example sometimes closes in pages with Flash (of course it allows you to restore the session when you start it again), but it is very light, fast and works very well.
Those are the pros, the cons, his youth; it still has quite a few shortcomings, and the issue of stability with Flash needs to be improved, but as a second browser it is an option to take into account and not to lose track of its evolution.
