Rekonq: interesting webkit-based web browser

recon is a browser for KDE based on web kit. Its code is based on Nokia's QtDemoBrowser, just like Arora. However, its implementation will be adapted to KDE technologies to provide a complete web browser to KDE users. It is still far from perfect and lacking compared to Chrome or Firefox, but it is worth keeping on our radar because it promises . Recently rekonq was announced to be the default browser for Kubuntu 10.10.

General characteristics of rekonq so far:

  • Good browsing experience x tabs.
  • It allows files to be downloaded via the KDE "file download" system.
  • Allows you to share favorites / bookmarks with Konqueror.
  • Supports proxies.
  • Allows you to browse anonymously.
  • Allows you to inspect web pages.
  • Based on the webkit engine: 100% Acid3.
  • Flash support.
  • It will support the installation of extensions for Chrome and Firefox (only those that use Jetpack).
