Rumors about Mageia 3

In moments where Mandriva continues to try to stabilize after the problems that it has dragged on for years, Mageia grabs the spotlight with a second version of his system very well achieved and balanced.

As if this were not enough, the Mandriva fork community does not take a break and we already have some insights according to the 3rd version to be released the following year. Remember that the development cycle that the community taught itself is 9 months, providing 18 months of support for each version.

The confirmed part refers to the official statement of the developers about the detailed plans to follow in the next releases, which will be given on the following dates:

  • Alpha 1: 04/09/2012
  • Alpha 2: 04/10/2012
  • Alpha 3: 06/11/2012
  • Beta 1: 12/12/2012
  • Version Freeze: 02/01/2013
  • Development freeze: 02/01/2013
  • Visual freeze: 07/01/2013
  • Translations freeze: 07/01/2013
  • Beta 2: 11/01/2013
  • Beta 3: 12/02/2013
  • The final structure is defined: 21/02/2013
  • Candidate launch: 05/03/2013
  • Final release: 20/03/2013

For now, the community is focusing on defining the specifications of the next version to be detailed by the suggestions of each user. On the official blog, you are encouraged to contribute in different ways, either by reporting bugs or by submitting proposals.

Certainly aside, speculation has already begun about what tools the 3rd version will offer. Most likely, it will continue with KDE as the "default" environment (not the only one that can be used, but the one that suits this distribution best) and the trial versions will probably include KDE 4.9. In the community some of the most important suggestions refer to the inclusion of grub2 by default, that Mageia 3 is an LTS version with greater support than at present and the possibility of having two LiveCD's, one with KDE and the other with GNOME. We will have to be attentive, since despite the fact that the plans are made remember that not long ago the launch of the 2nd version was carried out, on May 22nd.

Approximately in January 2014 Mageia 4 will be released, but this is just a piece of information since it is useless to anticipate so much in the future. For now, the community is eagerly awaiting the 3rd release of this distribution, creating wallpapers like the one below and helping this relatively new distro continue to grow as it has in its 3 years of existence.

Thanks Juan Carlos Ortiz for the contribution!

@ twitter-504169259 Mageia is very good but for you I don't like it, I think you have enough knowledge to get into something more complex that you will get better results.

Mageia is business oriented, but it's so easy it's best for newbies.

It is the only distro 0 terminal that I have tried, no matter how much they say about another that I know.

Is that you also mention about kubuntu 12.04 Now with Mageia.
You use KDE right? How are you doing?
Because now Arch has some very rare updates and I plan to use sabayon or gentoo.

  5.   kik1n said

Well, I was almost convinced by Sabayon, it doesn't have all my Arch apps.
If not Sabayon to Opensuse. 😀
    How about this mageia?

  6.   kik1n said

If sabayon convinced me, the thing is to look for the programs. It will still be my backup distro until Arch stabilizes or a new iso comes out.

The best alternative to Mandriva, since the latter has gone from being the best distro for those who start to be a copy of Mac.

Now Mageia has occupied that throne
