Scheduled maintenance on servers DesdeLinux

Maintenance

Scheduled maintenance

Greetings to all:

Our provider (GNUTransfer) has informed us that tonight maintenance work will be done on the VPS that we use to DesdeLinux. GNUTransfer not only offers excellent service, but also improves them from time to time.

On this occasion, VPS customers who have contracted one of them will receive an increase in the resources of the VPS plans without price changes. In our case, our largest VPS will have 4GB of ram and 80GB of disk 😉

As I said before, these changes will take effect tonight and at the most, we must be offline for 30 minutes or so, so we apologize for the inconvenience caused.

It's no hassle, it's more, congratulations! It really has to be quite rewarding to be given more VPS features.
Take it as a gift for the great work you do 😉

    Thanks for advising!

A query: what is the time zone of the blog? because there is a difference of my watch with the time of my comment of about 3 hours.

    1.    Joaquin said

Sorry, I was wrong. I'm 2 hours ahead of the blog.

GNUTransfer's hosting is in Houston, Texas, so the local time there is UTC -7 (-6 summer time), whereas if you mean Havana time, where elav and KZKG ^ Gaara are, then It is UTC -5 (-4 summer time). I don't know what time the ad would refer to.

Hi @ Charlie-Brown I was referring to the date and time in the comments below each username. I am from Argentina and here it is taken as a reference UTC-3 ( https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hora_oficial_argentina )

Maybe you should look at other providers, my VPS is much higher than what you have, and if you pay what it says on the web ... They are kidding you.

    Greetings.

PS: I do not say the name because I am the one who paid for the service, and I am not a walking ad, much less free. XD

Superior in what way? What is your provider if you can tell? Until today, with all the providers we have had, GNUTransfer has been the best not only in resources, but also in support and attention. 😉

As far as resources are concerned, for the same thing that says that you pay, I have more than half, (Ram / Disk) the CPU I do not know which one you have but the lower one of my provider is 2 cores to 3.0, in all SSL plans , unlimited transfer, etc etc.

The service is great, real-time chat, skype or by phone, and when a problem can drag on, they are the ones who call you, they worry that there are no errors, etc.

As I have already said, I am the one who pays for the service, and not the other way around, I will not advertise if I am not paid, but as I have already said, if you search a bit, you will find better offers.

PS: Why you ask what difference is there between a VPS and Hosting, is that Hosting is a shared server among many, and there are many who pull CPU, RAM etc etc, you usually have a minimum of Ram assigned with peaks, but They are not very high, the transfer issue and others are the same, the one that gives you a maximum or unlimited is the same for both, the VPS (it is a virtual server) you have resources assigned just for you, as well as you can have access to shh, as root user, choose the distribution you want to have installed, and manage at will, (This only the VPS and Dedicated ones) for example a dual CPU with 3.0GHZ and 4GB of Ram, with an allocated disk space, but it is a virtual server, so the main server is shared in the same way but you always ensure that hardware for you. then there are the dedicated servers, which are no longer virtual, but are 100% real hardware for you, but this leads to a higher number of € or $ depending on the country you are, from here enter whether it is SSD or HDD, the difference is abysmal being the same hardware, everything and that most providers already use SSD, if they give that system apart, I recommend it they are not much more expensive, but it is appreciated.

Good news. I have been attentive to the forum more than ever.

Also, I have a question in the forum regarding the web administration panel they use.

    I do not understand anything
I depend on Speedy Telefónica, unfortunately, is there something better and I'm not aware of it?
    What is that server?
Try to explain it in a way that a person outside the digital world understands
    I use linux distros

Francisca, we are referring to our server, where it is hosted DesdeLinux.net.. 😉

    2.    Joaquin said

@Francisca: A server is a computer specially designed to host websites. There are companies that are dedicated to renting this equipment with different plans, according to what the client needs. In this case, the service provider company is GNUTransfer and "the client" is Elav and the other guys who manage the website "desdelinux.net». This on the one hand.

On the other hand, we users, in order to access the site we need to connect to the internet. That is where different companies appear that provide the connection service (in your case, speedy) with different plans.

I suppose your question comes because perhaps you have heard about the transmission speeds that servers handle. While speedy offers you a service of, for example, 1mbs (known as "one Mega"), which is enough to surf the Internet calmly, much faster services are contracted on a server (I don't have much idea how much, but the difference is big) for the simple reason that the server sends a lot of data due to the number of visits the site has. When you access the blog, what you are seeing at that moment, all that data (images, comment text, etc.) is downloaded to your PC by the web browser. And that data is heavy (at this moment, this page has a size of 15,11 KB (15.475 bytes)), it seems insignificant, but on this page there were 492 visits, that is, the server sent 15.475*492=7613700 bytes (~ 7.2MB) in one second, which is the time it took to load the page on your PC and desdelinux It has hundreds of visits at the same time from several posts.

Well I beat around the bush, I hope I was clear.

For me it is somewhat confusing. What is the difference between hosting and VPS?
If you could please explain later also why VPS is more convenient for you than hosting and how GNUTransfer is handled

    regards

Hosting: It is a space that you hire in which you can upload your HTML, PHP files or install from a CPanel. All services (Apache, MySQL) are configured by the provider.

VPS: It is a space that you hire in which you can configure the services yourself, in addition to being able to upload your HTML, PHP files ...
