Solus 1.0 OS the GNU / Linux distro with its own and different environment

It has been more than two years since SoluOS disappeared but Ikey Doherty (the same one behind Solus 1.0 OS) did not stop working and now it brings us this distribution that takes up the name of the old one "by force"; and that also comes with its own desk. A few days ago, Ikey Doherty himself made the announcement that the Solus 1.0 operating system is already officially available for download. This is undoubtedly excellent news and an extra Christmas gift that we love.

And it is that this distribution is very different from the classic GNU / Linux distributions to which we are already more than accustomed. To begin I want to say that this distro distances itself from the most popular environments, such as Cinnamon, Gnome, Plasma, among others; and makes a strong bet on his desk, named Budgie, a desktop created with GTK that turns out to be minimalist, but without ceasing to be efficient.

Solus is a recent system, created from scratch and with its own desktop that has been based on GNOME: Budgie. But to tell the truth, what can we expect from something that was called Budgie (parakeet)? Well, something small or little, but that is very nice to look at, something they have more than achieved. Now the most remarkable thing, despite the fact that we are talking about a desktop that wants to revive the classic without neglecting innovation and that the tools that it presents are those of GNOME; is Raven, which has been conceived as a notification center and at the same time is a desktop configurator in the best OS X style, and that we will have it in a Side panel.

What else can be found inside Solus 1.0 OS?

  • Kernel Linux 4.3.3.
  • Multi-device Compatibility UEFI BIOS.
  • Rhythmbox 3.2.1 pre-installed.
  • Firefox 43 pre-installed.
  • Thunderbird 38.5.0 pre-installed.
  • Nautilus 3.18.4 pre-installed.
  • VLC 2.2.1 pre-installed.
  • Eopkg package manager and installer.
  • Notifier and customization menu

The only thing we regret is that it is not completely finished yet, and I mean is that they have been detected Some errors but they will be corrected as new updates come out. These errors range from problems with the AMD drivers, to errors with the Steam platform, there are also errors with the HP brand printers, which at the moment cannot operate correctly in Solus 1.0.

There is no doubt that the most attractive thing this distribution offers us is its budgie desk. The conjugation in its design for the classic but current at the same time is something that will surely attract many users. And not only that, but its perfect complement is the Raven menu, which gives us the most comfortable and simple way to access common tools and apps like the calendar and / or music without forgetting to see notifications quickly.

And the option that cannot be missing in a system like this is the option of customization, and that is that both the Budgie and Raven desktop they are fully customizable, and you can change the color of the theme, icons and add notification panels or widgets.

In the Official Site there is the link for the direct download. But if you are looking to download the visual set, then in GitHub you will find the theme Arc for GTK, Arc for Firefox and icon set Moka.

Solus 1.0 is really a different distribution, its team of developers has worked on it about a year and a half and apparently they achieved the goal and the hard work has paid off. And the time has come for all of us to test this distribution, comment on your experience and your opinion about it.

Hello, this news is good. But half a stack, I read it several days after the one that came out in MuyLinux, and it looks like a rewritten copy. They are very similar people ..

Be original, write in your own words. Anyway, keep up the flow of articles that come in handy. Regards.

I correct myself. A day ago, not several days ago.

Those from MuyUbuntu release things a few minutes after those from Xataka, in addition, the place itself is very unobjective and is a little censored, that is why I preferred Desde Linux.

I agree with Azulejo. In MuyLinux they are censoring a lot the comments and I do not mean insults or objectionable content, but any comment that corrects, expands or makes a constructive criticism of their articles.
And yes, it's been MuyUbuntu for a long time ...

I have installed it on my brother's netbook. It has been the only system in which I have been able to see a YouTube video in conditions 😀
